Go to About for it to automatically check for updates. They've thankfully fixed a bug which was causing me no end of worry for a little project of mine. :)

details: http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2010/09/whats-new-in-google-chrome-6.html

Interestingly it gives a big red skull with a crossed out https for ausgamers.

Thanks for the info. Could this be the one!? Stand by for eval report...

EDIT: The answer is "no" - still doesn't support my most critical Greasemonkey script. I did a bit more foraging and found this: http://userscripts.org/topics/41177 - might give it a go.

Heh and I just crashed it by pressing stop->refresh when a site didn't seem to be loading (ausgamers as it were).

on what URL? we have a few mixed-security assets accidentally mixed around at the moment.

It's not happening now when I reaccess the page. When I clicked the icon it didn't give any noticeable reason to worry. Said the certificate was valid and using two hundred and something bit encryption.

Oh now I remember, it mentioned that while the security was valid, some items on the page were not covered by it, and hence could be altered in transport to alter the functionality of the page. But it seems to be gone for good now.

I'm on the dev channel, which is already up to version 7. It's always been totally stable for me, so I keep using it.

Same as Midda. I also have the Canary version installed (because the LastPass extension was broken in one revision of version 6 on the dev channel).

I just installed Canary today to try out the GPU acceleration. Is there anything else in Canary that's not in the dev builds?

I get update server not available (error 3) in chrome's about box. Could this be because I deleted the googleupdate.exe file I found pretty much constantly running in the backgroud?

Here's a tip google, some of us don't like s***loads of updater processes constantly going. Give me an option to run it once a week you idiots.

This.

Also, the new colour scheme sucks.

Here's a fixed theme: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/ilkecpolncpdeefgdlnhmmdghkmonfkk?hl=en-US#

Edit: forums don't format https links correctly?

I got rid of googleupdate at some stage. Was still able to upgrade. Is probably just overload.

What's really annoying is the dragon age service required to be running to load games with dlc. It's not like I'm going to be playing that game on a regular basis, but if I open it I bloody well better be able to load my save game.

I prefer the new colour scheme.

And what the problem with the updater process?

As Whoop said. If every dev and his dog was happy to start attaching permanent processes, modern computing power would quickly go to waste and we'd be back where we started.

Plus I don't like s*** on my computer which I don't know if it's supposed to be there or not.

Just like I don't need a f***ing Adobe Reader or Avast! shortcut on my desktop thanks.

Kind of this. I shut down every windows service I don't use and delete all the start up registry entries for stuff as well. The thing with the google updater is it's a bastard to stop running. You delete the registry key and it magically puts it back again and I don't like programs f***ing with my registry and it makes me cranky @ google for being a******s trying to dictate how I use my PC.

If I wanted them to tell me how I use my OS I'd use a google made OS but I'm using windows and only MS gets to tell me what to do, well MS and your mums.

I'm also pretty pissed off @ MS too because their new version of messenger won't sign in unless you have their homo windows live service running. WTF do you need another windows service for just to allow you to sign in to a bloody messaging program? What could it possibly be doing in the background while messenger is closed that requires it to be constantly running?

I find it much easier to just let Google Updater do its thing. My computer was actually made within this century, so it manages with it just fine.

Simple solution: Use the vastly superior Digsby or Pidgin.
