Got a 2 year old sony laptop. It has Elpida 1 gb 2rx8 pc2-5300s-555 ram in it, just wondering if that is DDr2 or just DDR ram.

When in doubt, I always just look up the pdf manual on laptop manufactures website. Take you a minute to get a definitive answer.

put 12v into the two endmost pins. If blue smoke comes out of the chips it's DDR, if a reddish grey smoke comes out it's DDR2.

oh and also what's that white bit at the end of you post?

everyone know it dosent work when you let the smoke out
