I was always taught that Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. But in reality it was the result of many people's hard work, according to wikipedia the telephone was worked on by "Antonio Meucci, Johann Philipp Reis, Elisha Gray, Alexander Graham Bell, and Thomas Edison, among others"
It seems Bell was a powerful businessman who managed to get a patent. Now I'm a little s***ted off about this, I have been subjected to such a s*** f***ed simplified bulls*** education... |

Yeah, the telephone was a bit like Ethernet. Edison had one design/method, Bell had another, Bell had money, influence, and a s***tier idea. Guess which won out in the end.

Lawyer's rule number #57884: It doesn't matter who comes up with the idea - all that matters is who secures the patent. (See also "Tetris".)

and even then we're still no.3 in the HDI
Human Development Index (HDI) is the measure of life expectancy, literacy, education, and standard of living for countries worldwide. |

its like morse code. Samuel Morse didnt really invent it, his assistant Alfred Vail did... and he just slapped his name on it and patented it. It was a joint effort but after Vail had done the legwork

Also look up the invention of Radio and Television. You'll find them knee deep in patent/marketing s*** too.

There are a series of intersting videos done by Jeremy Clarkson about the invention of things like the telephone and tv. Was called Inventions That Changed the World.
In the telephone one, if i recall back when is aw it, he said that 2 people basically placed patents on a telephone on the exact same day, but one slipped the guy some money and got his done first. Also seem to recall there was some guy in Mexico or something that had a sick wife and used elecroshock or something and had whole house wired up and found he could hear her from other rooms via the wires. And this was before anyone else so he could be said to have the first phone. All very interesting. |

Man, I haven't had Coco-pops in years. Stick to Rice Bubbles these days, too scared of how much sugar there has to be in Coco-Pops.
Cue obligatory "Thread successfully derailed". Cue obligatory "Harden up, princess" |

I'm pretty sure Rice Bubbles are pretty bad for you too...i.e high in sugar...compared to things like oats anyway.
