Yo, If i buy a HDMI Male to DVI-D Male Digital Cable for 4.99 from firefold will i be able to use my LCD monitor (22" Asus) to play games in High def? I know that games on consoles are 16:9 and computer monitors are 16:10 but will it make that much of a difference? Ta.

yeah should work however microsoft STILL hasn't put these resolution options in the system after being asked for so long. each new update comes and still no 16:10 fix.

apparently some monitors will add the black bars for you, but to tell the truth when I was using my 360 on my 22" monitor I didn't really notice the difference in AR, so don't worry too much.

I don't know about HDMI outputs coz my 360 doesn't have them, I just plug the monitor plug on the end of my 360's video cable into the port on the back of my samsung LCD monitor and away I go.

Ive never had black bars on this monitors in games, no matter the resolution it just stretches. Not sure if this is because of the graphics card or monitor though. So in theory i could buy the HDdvd player attachment and it'll work the same, right?

^^ VGA output cable

I get black bard top/bottom when playing normal dvd's on my 360, it's not the monitor that puts them there in this case it's the dvd software on the 360 itself. Just like if you were to watch a widescreen show in windows, whatever media player you use should letterbox it to prevent stretching. Games are a different kettle of fish, some are designed for widescreen, some aren't depending on how the game was coded it may letterbox or it may stretch.

yeah thanks whoop. The black bars aren't too big though are they seeing as its only 16:10 to 16:9. i know it depends on the movie since some are 4:3 and some are 16:9. When i watch movies on my pc i use VLC so i just change the aspect ratio to 16:10 permanently, Stretching doesn't really bother me.

Thanks for the info guys.

I went to EB looking for a VGA cable for my 360 and they had told me that they were very hard to find and I was better off ordering one from the internet, however the game shop across from Mr Toys in the Myer Center had a ton for around $50 each.

yeah i went to EB and got told the same thing, then i walked into a JB and saw a stack of different brands and bought one. Always go for the one with the thickest look cable. i think its the madcatz brand that has this s*** look thing cable and the quality of teh output is disgusting.
