For a PG, this movie is pretty decent, however does lack in certain battle scenes with standard narnia-style "I shoot you in the face and you fall down without any blood" battle scenes.

Spoiler ---

When the polar bears jaw gets knocked off and his neck snapped my eyes opened fairly wide. Best part of the movie imho. I also thought the lack of polar bear jaw-snapping in the final battle was le suck.

Also, not enough daemon fighting going on.

The ending is very anticlimatic, seeing as it isn't so much of an "ending" at all.

------------

Most of the movie was either setting up characters or introducing world lore, which, while it was interesting, sucked time out of the precious battle scenes.

Anywho, 7.3/10

I wanna see this but after watching Nicole in The Invasion I don't think I will. Well I won't spend any money watching it. Her performance in The Invasion was atrocious. Honestly, I was almost embarrassed every time she opened her mouth. And she's had so much botox injected into her face she has the emotional range of a dead fish.

Was an excellent movie, and surprisingly Nicole Kidman did quite well in this.

Unfortunatly the ending left you wondering what the f*** just happened. It felt like they cut it off mid movie and that was what disappointed me the most.

The rest of the movie and the idea behind it (from the book) was fantastic.

Yeah, saw this on boxing day and the ending left me very dissapointed.

There were a few moments when I looked around at the young children in the audience and wondered how they were coping. Kids films have certainly stepped up the scare factor since Never Ending Story which scared the bejesus out of me when I was a kid!

the themes and ideas behind the dark materials trilogy aren't really designed with kids in mind imo. that's why i'm not too keen to see the movie, it seems like they're going to dumb it down and change too much.

Half the noobs on here don't even know how to quote or how to html link properly, do you really expect them to remember spoiler tags exist let alone how to use them?

p.s.  white spoiler tags > black ones

Yeah, it was better than I was expecting. I saw it yesterday cos I had a free movie ticket that had to be used by December 31st and it was the only thing on at the right time, and it was actually pretty cool. The bit with the polar bear getting its jaw ripped off took me by suprise too, I didn't even realise thats what had happened for a while.

And I think the reason it ended so up in the air is because its meant to be the first part in a trilogy or something (I haven't read the books, but I know theres more than one in the series).
