Ok, just going by the opening scene this movie has the potential to kick some serious ass.

Spoilers ahead!

Saw the extended trailer at the movies last weekend. Starts off looking like theres a lot of potential - and then just looks absolutely hopeless.

I really want to see I am legend though.

I agree with GP. Saw the Trailer when I saw Hitman.

Looks really good at the start, but as the Population counted whilndles down it gets worse and worse.

Still, going to see this Boxing Day.

I never thought the last movie was bad. It wasnt great was good enough that I enjoyed it. there were a few annoying parts sure but it worked for me. So far though this new one has the potential to be a great movie.

I am planning to go Boxing Day. Apparently it is only being shown in selected cinemas due to "R" rating.

Will watch the tralier when I get home, but all I can say is please god let it be better than AVP. Some sort of narrative would be nice, as well as characters who don't feel like they have been cut from the back of a Cornflakes packet.

Still, no movie with Aliens in it can be all bad...

It's rated R!??! That does have potential then, although the Predator Alien looked f***ing hilarious. An Alien with dreadlocks... lmao. I wouldn't have bothered if this one was only rated PG/M, but R!!?? Worth seeing it just to see people getting ripped up.

Narrative? I don't want no stinking narrative, I just want Aliens and Predators owning s*** up.

Edit: Hahaha! His arm melts off!

The part where the kid gets face hugged sold me. I thought of it's gonna be another film where the kid gets away just because you can't kill kids in an action movie. I guess you can if you're only laying eggs in their mouth.

If you mean the alien blood, it's acid and has always melted through everything in all the movies.

Holy crap that looks awesome.

Seriously, this is like an AvP wet dream. That glimpse of the Predator homeworld is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Like they are just kicking back for centuries and toying with the Universe, waiting for something fun to happen.

If i remember right, the 1st AvP movie got a PG13 rating in the US, which i guess would be equivelint to our M. This one however has gotten an R (or is it NC17?) rating over there which should convert to an R rating here but it seems that very few movies come out here now with that rating. honestly the last R rated movie i can remember coming out in the cinemas was fight club

doesnt look tooo bad.. i dont agree with the pred-alien design.. The design from the AVP game was much better.

what a load of bollocks. if the aliens take on traits of their hosts how come none of them had a big cheesy human grin? or man hands? f*** that s***, can't just change stuff from movie to movie and expect us to just go along with it.

I think you're way off. From memory AVP was rated PG here. R in the states is roughly the same as MA15 here. Our R18+ rating is much much stricter than the US's is, which is why there are a lot of "unrated" DVD releases. In turn, these unrated versions are sometimes actually the theatrical release we get in Australia.

Example: 28 weeks later was rated R in the States, but here it wasn't.

What the hell was going on with the predator all nicely laid out taking a nap in the ship with the alien inside it?

Were they intentionally breeding a predalien with noone watching the thing hatch... it all makes zero sense and annoys me.

I think Rubba its the scene from the end of AVP where the space ship was flying off home so it must pick up the story from straight after the first movie kinda cool if ya ask me..

IMO if thats the full scene straight from the movie, it seems to fast, theres no introductory slowness. So much info/progression in so few minutes. But thats just me.

YES!!!

Nah, what I meant was the intro looked a little rushed if you know my meaning. Things happened too quick. The alien killed that one predator then 15 seconds later the ship is crashing on the ground.

You see him Plasma Blast at least twice. And you see the explosion from the outside.

Huh? the Alien always has and always will take the traits of it's host. That's what makes it so f***ing awesome. Notice in Alien3 is was more like a dog because it was spawned from one? Geiger has explained eveything about the creature.

This movie looks like it has some sweet sci-fi shiz in it. I didn't mind AVP. Infact I don't think I hate one predator or alien film so I guess I'll like it either way

actually originally the alien in alien3 was ment to have come from a big giant hairy cattle looking thing that lives on the lice infested planet that the movie was set on, but thought it would be more interesting if it came from a dog.
alien 3 director cut *extended version* is the best bit of cinema ive ever watched, bit long though at over 3hours.

Man, I hope that it's only R in the states. I'm really looking forward to this one.

Alien Vs Predator Requiem
MA15+ (Strong violence, coarse language)

Fair enough that makes sense, I have actually seen that movie but its not something worthy of storing long term in the memory banks imo.

Aliens. Best in the series, topping that would take something truly special.

I watched a bit of AVP last night and I think one thing that bothered me about that movie (among many, many other things) was the sets. There's just no atmosphere.

Every set seems so...set-like, and not like an actual place at all. I noticed that the "temple" where the Alien queen etc is stored down at the bottom of the shaft (hehe...shaft) is particularly bad and looks a lot like a model of a temple at the bottom of a shaft. The scale is all wrong somehow.

The aliens and the predators all look cool and do cool stuff (except for befriending humans, which is quite possibly the lamest thing in the movie) but it's the lack of atmosphere that really stands out. Given that all four previous Alien movies contained genuinely believable sets with tonnes of claustrophobic weight and clinical sterility (Alien), and that Predator used the jungle as not only as a setting but as a integral character itself, AVP's sets failed to be convincing as anything more than an end to it's dubious means.

I suppose though to be fair the AVP movies have to be seen as an almost entirely separate entity, given that they don't necessarily follow on from Resurrection or Predator 2.

Why don't they just base a screen play from the Alien: Earthhive series of books.

Earth gets taken over by Aliens because humans are stupid. That would make the most awesome lead up to a trilogy ever.

I love the Alien series books.

Gives a whole new level to the species with the Royal Jelly used as drugs, the Queen Mother alien and her huge drones, flying aliens and Earth getting royally f***ed over.

Really loved to story of the crazy military guy who thought he could breed and train his own aliens to fight the ones on earth. That ended well.

Is that the series in which the first actual Earthhive is in Brisbane? I haven't read them but a mate told me that, not sure if it's the same series.

Although it takes less to get an R rating in the states it is slightly more relaxed compared to here - in Oz you HAVE to be over 18 to see the movie, whereas in the States you just have to be accompanied by someone over 18.

On another note, I was watching the bonus disc of Indiana Jones and it has Spielberg talking about how Temple of the Doom was a bit darker than Raiders, and needed a harsher rating. So Spielberg goes to the President of the MPAA and tells him and hey presto a couple of weeks later PG13 was invented (compared to just PG I think).
