Hey dudes, I bought an Antec NeoPower 500W PSU yesterday and when I plugged it into my home machine it wouldn't do squat. I stripped the machine back to nothing so that all that was connected was the CPU (4 or 8) & ATX (20 or 24) connectors and all the PSU would do is just make a click.. click.. click.. noise.
So I figured I got a DOA unit but I tried it on a few different machines at work and it powers up fine. I'm completely lost at what the problem could be. The motherboard is a GA-965P-DS3P with an E6400, new house (built 2yrs ago) so I can't imagine some underlying electrical problem. Machines at work were just Dell Dimension 4600/4700's. Any thoughts? |

This sounds dodgy but usually plug the 240v cable into the psu and you should hear some arcing as it plugs in. Then bridge the power switch pins to make sure its not a problem with the power switch. Failing that, possible mobo problem. You might want to take the advice of someone who hasn't been electrocuted a few times tho.

Haha
Yeh I remember hearing it arc when plugging in the power cable & also switching it on. Mobo works fine with 2 older crappy 300W PSUs so bit reluctant to point the finger at it. I just wish I tested it at work before emailing MSY saying it's buggered :( |

Sigh.. no luck with it at all. Ripped it all apart and put it back together piece by piece and nothing. Even with just the CPU installed it still made the clicking noise.

Hey I remember reading a review that had a problem with 500w PSU and that mobo. He put in a higher watt one and worked fine. Sorry don't have time to find the link.

Could be an odd earthing problem, did you already try ripping everything out of the case and powering up the parts on say, your kitchen table?
Other things to try if you haven't already: connect the power supply with a different IEC cable a different power outlet/powerboard/extension cord (if one is in use) a different house circuit and make sure theres no fan detection shennanigans going on. Not sure what else to try. |

I'm no expert here, but if a PSU "Power Supply Unit" doesn;t power up, u need to omit the word Power from it, as it doesn't Power on...
So, its called a Supply Unit, what does it supply? what does it hold? where can I get one? |

I tried it bare bones on the kitchen bench and a few other power sockets and still the same thing. Also tried different power cable, etc.
I've just thrown it into my other PC and same result, just sits there clicking away like a hobo trying to get a smoke.. other PC is a busted ass old P4 Celeron as well with a completely different motherboard. |
