So I just bought tickets to see Smashing Pumpkins and Queens of the Stone-age and Duran Duran on the same bill. What? Usually I get wind of these things early but an Internet pre-sale kicked off today.

The QLD show is the weekend after soundwave, at the Gold Coast Avica resort

http://vfestival.com.au

Leading the charge as headline acts for 2008 are THE SMASHING PUMPKINS (who last graced Oz with their sizeable talents some ten years ago) and perennial UK pop chameleons DURAN DURAN, returning to Australia to showcase their sensational new album 'Red Carpet Massacre' (gold dusted with the Timbaland and Timberlake Midas touch).

Joining them on V Festival's two main stages, audiences will be wowed by QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, the freshly reformed THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN, UK sensation MIKA* (east coast only), French electronic-ists AIR* (playing Australia for the first time - east coast only), love-from-above disco indie party people CSS, and the newest Modular sensations PLUG-IN CITY. V Festival will kick off in every city with the national winner of Virgin Mobile's Garage to V competition, at the conclusion of its national search for the best new talent.

Aussie dance heroes THE PRESETS will unleash their new album upon the fans congregated around the allusive and mysterious Other Stage, along with THE TOUGH ALLIANCE, and many more like-minded acts from around the globe... which will be announced real soon.

Pre-sale code is VFEST08 btw; glhf.

The only thing that scares me about V festival is the venue, seriously if it rained hard theres a chance the 'mosh' would drown.

Queens are so f***ing awesome live. Only listen to their albums pretty occasionally but f*** they're sick live. WOWOW

Queens and the Jesus and Mary Chain = hot. Hopefully both will play side gigs

Haha, if they did the combined ticket price would probably be more than the V Festival anyway. Unless you just wanted to see them twice, what a silly thing to hope for.

I heard it rained last time and the crew came out and gave everyone rain coats?

I also heard this s***s all over most other festivals. Too bad I don't like either of the aforementioned bands enough to spend that sort of capital.

Bit worried about what the Pumpkins would be like live these days. I saw them in 96 at Festival Hall with the original line up + the guy who overdosed not long afterwards. Still one of the best gigs I have ever been to.

It pissed down at the gold coast V fest last year for 20 minutes then cleared, and everyone rushed to get raincoats. maybe my definition of pissing down is all wussy and s*** and it equals " the lightest spit" for you

Yeah it was only a sprinkle, enough to get half the production vehicles bogged tho, the whole back of house area is a f***ing flood plane, not very well thought out.
