I wanna buy an 8800GT this Saturday, but I'm having a hard time finding someone who actually has one in stock. I've put my name on one at CA, but they said they're not getting them for a week or two. I can wait if need be, but if I can get one on Saturday that'd be awesome.
Anyone got any ideas? |

You'll have a really hard time for quite a while. Even America is on backorder and they are more likely to get cards than we are :P - and if you can even find one, youll get ripped off so would do well to just relax and hold off. They are bringing out the remade GTS/GTX in december or early next year plus, the new ATI budget card will only help to lower prices.
Right now umart is gouging like f*** (even though they have none in stock) - 450 for a card that is 300 (australian) in the US is utterly retarded. |

I've been looking for the past week and a half and you won't get one for what they are worth.
Wait till Jan when stock levels rise and prices fall again. |

Cheapest price in Brisbane atm seems to be Queensland Computer group
No one has stock tho. On a good note, the 320gts has come down massively in price. |

If you have an ABN or a mate who has one, Compuworld at the Gabba may have what you're after, and they're open until 2pm on Saturday.
They're a wholesaler (hence the need for the ABN), but here's what they're currently listing on their site: Model No. Description Ex GST Inc GST GA88GT-512A ASUS EN8800GT-HTDP-512 512MB PCI-E VIDEO $439.00 $482.90 GA88GT-512G GIGABYTE NX88T512H-B 8800GT 512MB PCI-E $409.00 $449.90 GA88GT-512S SPARKLE 8800GT 512MB PCI-E VIDEO CARD $310.00 $341.00 Hope that helps! If I could, I'd offer to pick it up for you (have a trade account with them), but I'm about 2 hours away from heading to Sydney :( |

Umart's prices have risen because our suppliers prices have risen. At the moment we are getting 20+ calls / emails a day from customers looking to order the 8800GT's. Our back order is huge and will likely take us over a month to fill.
The demand for the 8800GT's have reached the point where it has become a joke amongst the sales staff. |

This is a long shot, but you could have a look for a second hand one on OCAU forums, but given the name of the forums, it's probably been overclocked like f***...
anyone know when the 9000 series is coming out??? |

from what i hear they are having heating issues.I have heard that they are pushing the core as far as it can go so overclocking isnt that great, however, I have heard of zero problems related to heat on stock models. Some models are factory overclocked and dont have stability issues though. From what I have read, NVIDIA has pushed the GPU really really far for the size. Apparently ATI's new GPUs are on a new fabrication process that is much much smaller (therefor cooler/less power consumption - and apparently the rate of success in factory is really high which means much cheaper cards - hence the cheap new card they just released 3800? I think) Either way, the 8800GT is still the best value card atm, if you get it for the right price - which should be well under 400. Just wait it out, new GTX and GTS cards will come out and reclaim their leads over the GT and the GT price will sink. Plus, the new ATI cards will come out soon enough and hopefully being a worthy contender, a bit of competition will renew and drive prices down. You would also have to be a complete moron to take obes advice and get a 320MB card of any kind... let alone an old GTS. The new ATI card is alot faster and about 170 US if Im remembering correctly. compuworld definately has no stock.
Both Altech and ABT (wholesalers) I know are receiving their 8800GT cards in on tuesday. I think this is a good indication that more stock in other brands other than their brands (Albatron, Inno3D, Leadtek, MSI) are due in shortly after. I don't think you'll be able to meet your deadline of this weekend in any case. Definately look to Umart and Computer Alliance on tuesday and snap up your stock quickly, because they're coming in and going out faster than you can imagine. There HAS been massive price increases due to shortages, so all suppliers are charging MUCH more than they're worth, and you would do very well to hold off ontil stock supplies regulate and become more consistent. |

Umart seem to have some Jetway and XFX 8800 GT models in stock at the moment. Be quick:

(I dont know if they have started selling any in Aus) ATM you can buy a generic 320mb gts for $300 A generic GT (if you can even find one) is $400 The 2900's atm are $500+ (atleast one of the "new" ATIs, the pro model I believe, was a underclocked bad batch of chips, ie. limited run) Is a GT 133% of the performance of a GTS ? the review would say no. |

Finally got my 8800GT last week after waiting for a month, had it in for a few days and on Saturday night one of the capacitors fell off my motherboard so the pc won't boot anymore :( hopefully can get it replaced today, can't say I've ever had that happen to me before, I've had capacitors blowup but never fall off. The motherboard is only a couple months old as well.

Dammit, I just read a review on the ATI HD 3850 .. can't decide which card is better when you're comparing performance & price.

Damn, I have never seen Umart so low on stock on a certian page. I got a Leadtek WinFast GeForce PX8800GTS 640MB Dual DVI HDTV SLI PCI Express about 3 months ago. Proir 2 this I had 2 x 7900gt in SLI and all they ever did was BSOD my gaming rig. (out of warrenty for 1 month) With this new card my system is kick arse. I can play all the latested games in full ress (1920 x 1200) at highest levels and it runs perfect. even crysis which I still think is a bit overtated. I can 2nd the comment on suppliers raising thier prices I know for a fact this card was posted at $463 last weekend now it is back up $488 which about what I paid for mine. Hope all goes well getting one and not getting slugged to much because stock is low. :) |
