Sup

I want to get an authorized SSL certificate from someone trusted, but don't want to spend the big $ on verisign, etc.

Anyone got any experience and or recommendations ?

Primarily to be used for webmail, mobile mail, and RPC over HTTPS

Could try one of those GoDaddy ones.. problem is that mobile devices have a limited trusted list of issuers and you can't update them.

So you might be stuck with a Thawte/Verisign - double check the cert you end up using is compatabile with WM5/6 devices.

Do mobile devices usually just prompt saying they can't verify the cert and let you continue w/ SSL anyway? Or do they just bail if it's not signed by a "real" CA?

Nah, if its not a trusted root certificate its a bloody pain in the arse (With WM6) and impossible with WM5

Just installed a free certificate from instantssl which seems to be good. 3 Month expiry though so it is obviously a trial-ish product. $80 a year, $110 for 2, or $150 for 3. Looks to be the go atm

instantssl is who we use, required a key installation for WM5 ( just copy and then click with stylus ) and works OOTB on WM6.
