Looks like iinet is the first to release Naked DSL plans, no phone rental! finally! and you get free voip service too.
Liberate your broadband connection. iiNet Naked DSL delivers the high-speed ADSL2+ broadband you love, without the cost of landline phone rental. http://www.iinet.net.au/products/naked/plans.html is anyone using this naked service? or even iinet voip? do you know the quality? |

it looks like great value until you see this:
Both downloads and uploads count towards your Naked DSL monthly quota. |

Even tho uploads are counted, I'm seriously considering changing from our uber internode $200 a month plan + $40 + Telstra phone over to this. $1,440 saving per annum can't be ignored.

unless you are a mad torrenter and leave torrents running for ages i don't think the upload cap should scare anyone. what other senarios are there where you upload heaps of data? |

i hate people who dont give back to torrents i give back while im downloading torrents. it is up to the people with better upstreams then me to do the rest. Amateur Web-server. sif upload heaps of data on an amature webserver at home. upstream is so weak on broadband in australia. There is always the ausgamers hosting if you are oldschool enough to have got one. |

oh so you have one do you ara? That's totally oldscool - I put my quakecon account against yours for oldskoolie-ness :) Better yet, got a canweb account? :)
Anyway who uploads? it's the $150 contract fee that s***s me, I won't be here in 6 months, let alone 24, garr! Still tempting though, for me I can get away with a $40 a month saving, but uh this whole 10-14 days without net access, garr! |

sif upload heaps of data on an amature webserver at home I wouldn't, but some other people do. Hence it's a valid use of upstream bandwidth. Anyway regarding this naked dsl, it's apparently a pain to get on and off it. Couple of weeks downtime on the line. |

Cheaper to get a plan with line rental. but you don't pay line rental or local/std calls so the net cost is lower.. |

That said, I do understand the recent shift to ISPs metering uploads. I'm just surprised it's taken them this long. Hopefully there'll always be some remaining bastions of true unlimited. Pretty s*** plans. I was looking forward to Naked DSL, but if I want the same sort of quota I've got now, it's cheaper for me to keep paying line rental. I don't give a s*** about STD calls or anything, because I just use my mobile.
Internode and TPG are introducing their own Naked DSL plans early next year, so hopefully they'll have something better on offer. |

i noticed a few weeks ago that Bigpond were counting uploads when they never used to. Telstra have always counted uploads, except back in the day where you had unlimited transfers within telstra and only 3GB outside telstra. hopefully internode naked plan won't count uploads. I'll switch to it in a hearbeat.. assuming they still offer similar price:quota plans. |

before we go hookin into ara let's not forget the metric f***load of files he's made available to people via our various mirrors over the years, long before you guys hopped on the sharing-is-caring bittorrent bandwagon =]

I came here to post about the Internode Naked ADSL plans that are currently in a beta trial for release Q2 2008 I believe. But I was well and truly beaten it seems.

Well I guess we're lucky everyone doesn't share your attitude or the system wouldn't work. that is a fair comment, but only for "questionable" content. anything legal usually has plenty of seeds running on dedicated servers. i know ausgamers keeps a seed up for nearly all torrents they supplying links to and a lot of others do too. apart from that, in most cases for non "questionable" content it is quicker to just download it from a mirror. you are more likely to get full speed from start to finish then when using a torrent. furthermore, downloading from a local mirror is also way better for your isp. users downloading from other users on the otherside of the world just creates unessasary congestion. |

I have heard, but not confirmed, that bigpond are now offering some good bundle deals with phone+internet+cableTV that are as good as if not better than some of the other deals out there. Might be worth a look if you're interested/have cable already
