My Geforce 4 recently died, now before you all start crying and gettin worked up. It's all good, it was about time it went due to the excessive dust buildup in the fan.

Now, what is doin my nut, is that back in the day i paid like
$700+ for my 4800ti, and that now the absolute top of the range card is f***in 250 bucks!

I'm gonna spend $47 and get a geforce 5. just so my computer works. man i'm behind the times with hardware..

yeah 8800GT's are all the rage atm but are difficult to get your hands on. $250 would get you a 512Mb 8600GTS, it's not great but not too bad, handles UT3 in 1680x1050 no probs but if you can spare the extra 100 the 8800GT would be the way to go though.

I gather your PC doesn't take PCI-Express...

I'm currently trying to sell a 6600GT for $40 (NOTE: THIS IS PCI-EXPRESS)

Mongie is on the ball, gonna have to upgrade your platform before you'll be able to use any of the decent cards.

Probably best to do the whole thing because the other s*** is gonna start flaking out soon enough.

Has anyone notice the shameless profiteering by hardware resellers with the 8800GT vid cards? I looked on Umarts site a couple of weeks ago when the 8800GT was just released, they had them for $369 with 1-2 day delivery. The 8800GTS 320Mb were around the $420 mark. This is the correct pricing structure as Nvidia had released them. Now that it is revealed that the 8800GT is a superior performer to all 8800GTS cards their price has suddenly jumped $80-100 and the GTS cards have dropped. Now according to Nvidia they haven't changed their pricing structure, it seems to be most resellers are making the price.

I find it really strange the way they release some cards.

The 8600GTS was crippled by s***ty 128 bit RAM, the 8800GT is half the same, it only uses 256bit (which was "the s***" for the 7 series cards) compared to 320bit for the GTS and 384bit for the GTX/Ultra.

It could have been an even more cainer card and laid waste to the GTX had they used the same RAM interface as on the original 8800 cards.

I presume it is to space out performance between cards, if the gaps are too close people are less likely to buy the better cards. So for the consumer it really sucks...

The 8800GT wasn't supposed to out perform the GTS, thats why they priced it cheaper than the GTS......greedy retailers!
