The original story has been pulled - looks like Ms didnt want anyone to know just yet, but some details of the fall update have landed. looks like it will be hitting Dec 4 and (amongst other things) allow users to download original xbox 1 games. MS's very own virtual console.

Sounds cool. US$15 for Xbox 1 titles would be pretty neat. Although we'll probably get reamed with region geared pricing if they sell them to us at all.

Then there's the fact that the Xbox 360's default HDD is only 20GB , that's enough for about 3 or 4 xbox games, which wont sit well with a lot of peoples broadband download quotas either.

I just want them to confirm that divx/xvid support and maybe through some h264 mov support in there while they're at it.

divx/xvid ^^^ me 3.....the 360 is so bloody fussy on vid files....why can't they just allow any format!!
yeah i have TV versity and converters but why do they bother restricting when this stuff is out there anyway?
seems pointless to me.....

I think if we got them here, it'd still cost the same amount of points to get them (1200 points) because live arcade games and other such stuff still cost the same amount of points here as compared to the US, its just the cost of points that differs.

Still, 1200 points is only like $21 australian, which is still not a bad price.

Doesn't the 360 already do h.264 in MOV files? I want them to add support for the MKV format.

And yeah, with DivX/Xvid support, TVersity would be pretty much completely redundant for my needs. I want that more than Xbox 1 titles, though I'd be happy to see them too.

Since on the topic of old games, will they ever update their Backwards compatible list? Hasn't been updated since April. & I'd love to play some old XBOX games that I always wanted to play. Especially The Warriors.

It was just announced DivX is coming to PS3, I wouldn't think it's far off for the 360 either since that slipup from the DivX CEO at last week's show.

and on other system update (or downgrade in this case imo) Nintendo is removing the MP3 playability function from the Photo Channel in favour of AAC.

I guess they just don't want to pay the MP3 licensing fees. Cheap bastards.

Unless Sony signed an exclusive deal or something.

why have they waited so long to add divx support? do they have to license the codec or something?

What, so we'll stop seeing DivX support for PC and stand-alone media players? I don't think Sony would be prepared to pay THAT much money.

I just found this article from back in September.

So today Microsoft is announcing a reinvigorated Media Center Extender effort called... wait for it... Extenders for Windows Media Center. Ok, the name totally sucks, but the important part is Microsoft upgraded its wayward Extender system with a new version that takes full advantage of Vista (including live HDTV streaming), supports 802.11n, and adds something that really blew our mind: codecs we actually care about, namely XviD and DivX.

If MS is supporting divx/xvid in MCE hardware extenders now, i can't see them not supporting it on the xbox360 version in the next update.

divx support would be handy on my 360 but id never replace my xbox media centre unless the 360 could be as equally awesome.
