Crysis has apparently been spotted in some EB stores a little earlier than expected; if you've been waiting to pick up Crytek's anticipated new title (and your PC is man enough to handle it), keep your eyes open because you'll probably find it on shelves. Don't forget to check out the demo to make sure you can actually play it.

aren't you meant to plug the release of game when you talk about the demo...

Given that the game in question here is one of the most graphically intensive ever made, you probably want to test it out on your hardware for free before shelling out your hard earned doll- oh, yeh, that's right - gamers will just buy anything

I got a call from EB Indooroopilly early this afternoon telling me my copy was in.

I've only played a bit further than where the demo ends up...but it's still really solid gameplay atm.

Not sure if they've changed anything from the demo but I seem to get an average increase in FPS of 5 in the full game.

Someone out there likes Crysis

Looks like it might do as well as the hype has been suggesting.

I'm talking about aiming right at an enemy that's 5 metres away.

I never had any trouble with the demo, bullets hit from about 50m away for me.

1up didn't review it as favourably as other sites..

What was to be proof positive that Crytek's range encompasses more than Far Cry's merc in the wilderness becomes history repeating itself. Dumb monster apes and indoor drudgery dragged down the finale of the developer's last FPS. In Crysis, it's dull aliens and a direct reversal of design logic. The wintry jungle is just a white hallway that we escort another nanosuited soldier through. Now and then, flying things land to attack with tentacles -- no huts to hide in (would aliens strip shingles from the roof to shoot inside?), no shattering cover, and no three-way mix-ups with wandering Koreans. The order to protect our partner, I suspect, is a tension-inducing device there to distract us from the unfinished framework of a big plan that fizzled but couldn't be cut.

Afterward, we sit in a truck turret. Although they're there, we're unable to take another vehicle (doors don't open) or to switch seats. Before this, we've both fired while driving and flipped back and forth between driving and firing. What this means -- and what makes this stretch seem as though a different studio developed it -- is that Crysis teaches us to fish and then drops us in bone-dry desert.

And on it goes. Stints in motorized air-defense systems...that don't move. Low altitude flight in a leaden VTOL, where defeating drones dissolves invisible barriers no one intends to notice, allowing us to fly forward, fight off another three drones, dissolve another invisible barrier, fly forward....

Fast forward through scraps of miserable story and melodramatic dialogue, along with a "boss battle" inherited from the coin-op class of '88 (see: Contra), and the ordeal is done -- beautiful throughout, mostly amazing, but vegetative by the end.

OMFG i have been playing this game solid for the last 5 hours and its just getting better(IMHO) mine didnt play the demo that well either but the full game is smooth as silk i think its by far the best FPS game i have ever played (big call from a quake man) call of duty 4 took me 3 hours to complete and was boring compared to this, what a jip my gtx8800 is owning it big time and the quad core extreme is loving it not one chug in the game so far and all the settings are on high f***ing awesome WD CRYSIS.

Ok my eyes are tired from playing this game so much but the bit where you have to blow up the tanks? That's a pain in the nuts, but besides that is I managed to actually FLIP! one of the tanks using grenades and it got stuck doing perpetual backflips, it then flipped onto a car which then flipped onto me and pushed me through the floor. I then just sat under the map and waited for the tank to "die" from the damage it took while doing constant backflips, well I sat under there until I figured out how to escape!

I've played maybe 20 mins past the demo point, not impressed at all.

Runs like complete dogs*** on the "optimal recommended settings" in vista64. I just got up to the village where they are holding some civ hostage and goddamn my fps has dropped to essentially unplayable levels.

AI is complete crap, I just watched a humvee try to do a 3 point turn whilst patrolling a section of road. Went parallel to the road , then backed up to swing around, but instead of turning it went directly into a tree... then it reversed a little and sat there trying to ram its way past the tree over and over and over till I killed all the occupants.

After playing cod4 the damage system to me feel absolutely horrendous, I can't seem to drop anyone with a single headshot. They just scream and keel over in pain get back up then come after you. Having to spray an enemy with a substantial burst to guarantee you'll kill them is s*** imo when you are trying to be covert.

I have read haxing the visuals on XP to allow very high gives a much smoother experience with almost no noticable difference visually from the dx10 version.
I really cbf doing an XP install for this... I don't know if I will even bother finishing it.

Eugh..

Anything more than 10m from an enemy and even though your laser sight pointer is dead seat on them.. and you're firing single bursts... and there's no bullets sprits hitting anywhere but them (and they're screaming) they refuse to die, its f***ing horrendous.
For some reason at a particular range, its also impossible to kill them with normal bullets (as in you can just pump them with 300+ shots and they will not die).

That and occasionally it takes two headshots at near point blank to kill someone (go figure).

Crysis is really really really really f***ing terrible. Ok visually (except the koreans feel like Im shooting at Wolf3D sprites and look like tangy cocktong ass).

Another stupidly rushed title ++++;

Well if it didnt run so poorly as it was.
I would get a fraps up and show just how stupid it is (of being scoped in. watching over 90 bullets hit someone without them dying.)

Game = load of s***.
Most frustrating singe player I have ever played to date, due to sheer absolute f*****y poor development and coding... EVER.

Oh and the AI is just SO STUPID, even on Delta (the hardest)

I sat there claoked and a patrol just came running up to me.. standing in my face, circle strafing me slowly all staring at me, yelling in korean
doing nothing until I uncloaked..

Yeah, I'd give that 10/10! It's s***house, AI repeatedly does really stupid s*** like this.

Cause they got paid too ;P

I find it hard to think that several people here paid $90ish for the game and play it for 30 mins and then say they wont bother with it any more.. I wonder if they actually purchased it..

Really?
Cos in delta a patrolman walked right up to me and did some investigative shooting of his gun.

Also, I have been able to get head shots from 100+ metres.
AI seems to be fairly alright.

Delta is frustratingly hard, thinking of scaling it hard, but the English voices of the Koreans are horrendous.

Yeah, I can get headshots with the sniper rifle from a distance - basically one hit kill anywhere.

However, put the scope on any of the rifles...
zoom in, and at a certain distance WATCH your bullets hit someone... over 90+ rounds, at a medium distance and they will NOT die.
Edge forward slowly towards them and woop! hello, suddenly your bullets begin registering and they will die.

Its royally fking stupid, at certain distances certain guns just have magical 'invisible barriers' that stop shots going any further... 10/10!

Oh I was talking about using the silenced SCAR, I have been playing very covertly and avoiding people where I can rather than blasting my way through.

Trying to take one lone wang out without alerting a camp is next to f***ing impossible. Creep up cloaked using the SCAR with the little red dot scope, probably would be considered mid/close range, aim right at their head and tap the trigger...

ARGGGGGG dude takes a hit and then starts shooting me... poo.

People should seriously stop buying this crap EA pushes out. I make no comment to you toll ;)

I think you have issues dude. EDIT: J not rubber.

In the spare time I've had to play it I've found the AI to be pretty good as far as computer oppenents go. I've capped people from a very long range, when they stop to look around. Gets a bit harder when they are moving. 90 bullets huh, never taken me more then half a clip to kill someone at any range I've tried.

I've also had the AI investigate where I was standing cloaked. Walked up near me said something in Korean and popped a cap in my arse. Other times I've tried to be sneaky and hide behind rocks after killing someone, only to have a nade thrown at me.

I've been fighting a band of koreans that grouped up and ran into the bushes and hid, I couldn't see them and they didnt fire at me. So I went hunting for them and next thing I'm being shot from 3 differnt sides.

Besides, quit your bitching and take the game back, you did by it from EB or another place that has 7 day return policy?

For an easy example, find a guard in a tower... he'll be facing you at all times, reardless of whether you are cloaked/have been cloaking between buildings/have never been spotted etc.
They will remain fixated on you, not look around etc.

Anyway, the Y71 (or whatever issue the koreans carry) is a POS and appears to be broken...
It carries the problems I speak of (try and use it for awhile at medium-long range and you'll see half the shots that show they hit... actually don't).
Tried using the SCAR and it seems remarkedly better.

I agree, I'm getting a bit sick of shooting people with an entire clip of 30 bullets and they're still alive. I've found the best way is to put the cloak on, put the gun on single shot mode (it has a HELL of a lot less recoil that way) and double tap them in the head. Instant death from only 2 bullets.

What I would like to see, especially on the sniper rifle is something insurgency mod got right, bi-pods. The ability to spread a couple of legs on your gun to stabilize it for long distance shots. I mean how the hell are you meant to snipe those guys in the other tower when your gun is swaying about like you're caught in a bloody hurricane?

Anyway, the Y71 (or whatever issue the koreans carry) is a POS and appears to be broken...

I use it because there's a plethora of ammo just laying about for it. Or does the game just put ammo down for the gun you use? Every ammo box I come across and every gun the enemy uses is the FY71 or in the level I'm on now some silenced sub machine gun that has the ability to kill me with 5 shots, yet in my hands can't kill the enemy with 2 full clips. There's mutiny afoot.

Whoop: I found the SMG in single shot mode WITHOUOT the silencer on and WITH the laser sight on... is actually more accurate and seems to register hits at medium-longish range more effectively than the rifles.

Until you get the YF71 with incinedary shots, I'd leave it alone (I wish I had known that earlier instead of getting super pissed off with its brokeness).

Why are people complaing that it runs s***? It runs well even on my system. I ran it on a mixture of high/medium with textures set to medium (inc. motion blur and medium shadows) and it runs about 15-20 fps which is playable and this is on a A64 2Ghz single core, 1Gb DDR400, 7800GS AGP video card..

Because... try running All Very High with any AA
compared to all 'high'.. it's a huge performance difference (and graphical difference imo).

I have a save game here where I managed to get the boat to magically.. (I have no idea how) stuck up in a tree about 1km up.

It took me about 5 minutes to get down because even when i jumped back in the water, I'd hit the ocean floor and die.

Oh yeah, I just remembered another flaw, sit in a circle of about 10 enemies shoot off your entire clip then reload. Notice anything strange? Might just be because I stuck it on easy mode but when I reload they stop shooting at me and let me reload. What the hell? Even on easy mode surely it shouldn't do that?

P.S. even though it's on easy mode, I'm still being raped by at least 10 of the little buggers in the jungle all at once so if that's "easy" I'd hate to see delta mode :(

Delta mode basically is

enable cloak > run 10m > hide in a bush > switch to armour mode to regen the power > enable cloak ... etc

3dee more importantly what OS are YOU running it on?

Theres a big difference between xp and vista here performance wise.

It runs well even on my system ... it runs about 15-20 fps which is playable

"Runs well" doesn't mean what you think it means. 15-20fps is s***. You'd be at a clear disadvantage if you try to play online with that jerkiness, and for single-player it would be insanely more enjoyable at 40-60fps.

I've started to regularly get plain white models edit: (and textures) which clip out under VISTA and 163.75 drivers with a 8800GTX. Only seems to happen in this game. CoD4, Jericho & Hellgate London all run/display like a charm. I'll post an image if anyone is interested.

To me the game seems only half finished, typical of EA, I have hundreds of errors in the console. Missing textures, memory leaks, failures to do something, it's crazy. On that tweaking site it mentions crytek hinting at a patch coming out soon so hopefully it will fix a few bugs. I just hope/pray they add a way to steady the weapons because trying to take out someone at 500m with your gun swaying in the breeze is starting to get annoying.

yer it seems to be a typical EA game, honestly the only thing that's really keeping me playing it is the graphics..

lets have a look at some of the other games

bioshock ... same "enhancement" basis.. except bioshocks plasmids are WAY better then crysis, so much more variety. not to mention it's story line is f***ing kick ass.

cod4 ... while it doesn't have the best storyline, the game play of it has probably been my favourite since the original half life, and it's MP is pretty sweet to.

crysis just seems to lack in both departments for me atm, im doing some tweaking to increase a bit of performance while not lose to much gfx / realism... so hopefully that might make me enjoy it a bit more.. crazy gfx... not much else... sigh EA u live up to your reputation again.

Yapa..
I think you are right on the bullets not registering + frame rate thing.

I noticed when I had dropped down from very high, to high it was a lot better in that department (even though to me, despite feeling a bit smoother I see no difference in the actual shooting.. it seems to register more logically).

In saying that.

In the snow section, I had to drop to medium (with no AA) on everything to get a PLAYABLE frame rate (i was getting about 3-4frames per sec on all high).
Bumped that back to all high textures med and it was sweet (left it that way for the remainder of the game too).

Still, the very end boss... with those settings, I must have been pushing around 2-3FPS occasionally again.

As far as storyline goes, all I can say is... when you get to the snow part (you'll know when you get to it), it looks beautiful, the story gets more interesting/involved and it's how it should have been from the start.....

3.2Ghz

echo the frame rate/hitbox problems thing.. i played through it on my flatmates pc because he has a fairly recent pc and new 8800gtx, i had way too much AA on though, and bullets were hitting people in the head repeatedly but doing nothing.. went away once i dropped AA, apparently the engine has some of its own AA anyhow..

i finished it in about two 3-4 hour sittings though, and i was pretty surprised when it actually ended.. but my jaw pretty much dropped every 15minutes at something going on... enemy AI did some really stupid things, but also some pretty clever things too, but yeh bit disappointing overall with some of the scripted actions like sounds that would play inappropriately...

take predator, aliens, and the matrix and you've pretty much got the entire story... i really liked it, the anti-grav mission was awesome... i haven't been wow'ed like this by a game since duke3d, and its definitely borrowed and updated a lot of duke things... f***ing awesome overall.. with a good patch, it will be great...

Yah this game is pimp. It is everything far cry should have been, but ubi never let them do it. Firefights in jungles with grens flying and enemies trying to flank you - its j0ra. Thank goodness for the suit tho - speed switching to strength to pummel a guy is so satisfying :P

I guess the dissappointing thing is that the AI hasnt progressed any since far cry - I think somebody mentioned lack of squad command stuff, but the enemy AI is as it was for Far Cry (kill a dude with the red beret, and encounters get easier).

Im running it at 1600x1080 (or something like that) - everything on low on a Q2Duo 2600, 2gig & 7600 - lowish specs but everything seems to motor along just fine.

almost enough to keep me home from work so i can finish it today :P
