I dont know - Spics and specs doesn't seem anti-commercial to me. They've had a really good mix of different personalities from what I've seen. One of the funniest episodes was with Darren Hayes (formerly from Savage Garden). He was quite amusing.

I hate all 'breakfast' radio. JJJ was the least s*** only because it had no ads. Myf didn't fit in with J and the Dr anyway. MMM sucks. Listening to a 2 hour long dj set every morning is much more pleasant for a drive into work. Gets you amped.

I can't imagine being a semi-intelligent lover of music with some credibility (which Myf obviously is) and even thinking about joining Triple M or any of those bland stations with their overly enthusiastic yet moronic presenters and the same tired old playlist trundled out year after year.
They probably dangled a pretty big carrot in front of her and I guess she could be working with someone worse than Peter Hellyer but still, it would have to be all scripted bulls*** jokes and tight structure, nothing like what I imagine JJJ to be.
At the very least at Triple J you are keeping in touch with what's new in music (even though I agree with Spook that their music choice has been big lumps of poo lately). Does anyone have a ballpark figure as to what these presenters are getting paid?

A big amen to the first point and a second smaller amen to the second.

I really doubt that they would be making big money. Of course there would be exceptions such as Lawsy and co that have been around for ever but your regular commercial station jocks I don't think will be retiring anytime soon.

Yeah it's not like it's a million dollar a year job, but I reckon Triple M breakfast presenters would have to be on well over 100 G. I mean they are the station, really. As opposed to JJJ, maybe 50, if that.

Commercial radio presenters must get paid a decent amount. Mick Molloy, Tony Martin, and Judith Lucy were all fairly respectable ABC personalities who defected. Very disappointing considering The Late Show was very much the antithesis of such lowest commmon denomiator drivel.
Even shows like "Good News Week" and "Kath and Kim" have caved for the cash.
It must be the money, cos it sure ain't the integrity.

you're talking like 'selling out' is a bad thing. They did their bit for 'community' and now they're doing their bit for 'themselves'. If they didn't move on to real paid gigs, there'd be little room for upcoming talent to be discovered and take their place.

I'm sure the networks make it worth their while to 'sell out'. And perhaps they believe they can make a difference in the commercial scene.

Umm selling out is a bad thing. Inevitably the elements that made the show/person/whatever smart and cool gets dumbed down so that Joey Bogan "gets" it. Therefore intelligent comedy loses to mass media rubbish.

J and the Doc were friggin hilarious when they started in the afternoons from Chris and Craig. So loosely rude! I'm pretty sure they've been warned a few times to keep it civil. Get em on triple Z i say, and be rude as f*** so its funny!

back in teh day i would never have listened to commercial radio, not because it was comerical radio, but because of the music they played

now i cant stand the music jjj plays, i gave up a long time ago because of their presenters, i cant even surf to jjj in the car now, because i know there is no music there for me

which is sad, because i listened to the j's from the day i moved to brisbane over 10 years ago, back when maynard was doing brekky and the j's play list was interesting and slaming, and they played music (from different styles) that i loved hearing

not only did i love the music they played, i found the dj's were informative and interesting and i enjoyed their intersong prattle

i remember being devestated when ian rogerson would dare defect from the j's to MMM way back in the day (back when MMM was super bevan, 24/7 Khe Sahn styles (fyi, the worst song ever written))

the decline in the j's music was gradual over the years, and when they lost quality presenters like adam and will, it was just too easy to switch to comerical radio, like nova

sure some of the music makes me cringe, and their playlists need expanding, but i often just turn the volume down during carp songs, as i actually like the presenters on nova in the morning, and even dont mind merrick and rosso in the arvos (more former JJJ guys)

maybe im just not in touch with the kids anymore :( but the j's have seriously lost their way and have drifted further and further from what i used to love in the last 5 years

got to agree with spook here. but half my problem with jjj is the fact its really, really political. that hack s*** is as equally biased and misrepresentative as anything i've seen on commercial tv. and f***, talk less, play more.

Roy and HG have the longest runnning show on JJJ. I admit if you happen to tune in halfway through that they are unintelligible, but if you get the podcast and listen to it through they are hilarious. The way the play off each other and create bulls*** over a 2 hour period is fairly unique.

Calling her a sell out would only be true if her intention to get into radio was only to be a radio jockey for JJJ. If her intention was to make s***loads of money then surely she is keeping true to her original intentions?
