Woo Trog

I don't know why people complain about the DVD player in the PSX2, we rented out a few DVDs the other day and it was just as good as our neighbours!

Yeah - this board is actually a pretty good wealth of knowledge when you really wanna know something. Has some top spammers too :) Best of both worlds :)

Phar, go to JB HiFi in the city, they had some FANTASTIC deals on VCR's and DVD players when I went in boxing day, I argued $40 off a already discounted VCR player cause I paied cash

Their DVD players started at about $250 and went to about $600

They had a Hitachi for $330 which I'm sure you could argue down

I have Hitachi DVD-ROMS for both of my PC's and they're f***ing excellent, one is 3 years old and it has always worked, even with f***ed up cds with big scratches etc

If you want a 'good' brand like Sony, Panasonic, JVC or Volvo, you'll be expected to pay a LOT more like $150-200 just for the brand name!

Get a Pioneer, you can pick up region unlocked ones for about $350-

I have 2 Pioneer roms at home with a dvd player, and same again at work, none of them have a problem and they all look sweet and have a nice crisp image

be sure to get a region selectable (ie. changeable with unlimited changes) one rather than a 'world region' one (ie. accepts any region without changing) coz some newer dvds can detect that and won't play.

I have a 5-disc Pioneer (DVC-503) that is not region locked (I don't have to select regions - it just plyas them regardless). It's good, except they don't do mp3's.

doober: what dvd's do that? I heard of that about a year ago, but we have LOTS of DVD's here (probably upwards of 110 now) including some recent ones (FF, The Mummy Ultimate Edition thingo, Simpsons). Actually I haven't played FF or Mummy on it yet, but everything else works on mine.

I ended up getting a Pioneer DV-344 which has everything I wanted except mp3 decoder, ah well thats what my PC is for I guess. Thanks to all the helpful ppl who replied to this thread.

Sif you would buy a PS2 to play dvd's.
