I was bored this arvo so I decided to install Ubuntu 7.04 on a spare PC I have sitting around.

AMD 2200+ socket a
Nforce2 mobo
1 gig RAM
Nvidia FX5200 video
200 gig HDD

So I boot off the CD it loads ubuntu into RAMdrive and theres the install icon on the desktop. I presume thats how you load it to the HDD. Click that it asks how you want it partitioned, and off goes the progress bar.

Came back in 15 mins and there was no notification that anything had been completed, it just dissapeared. I figured it was done so I rebooted with the CD out and all I get is "Error loading operating system".

Tried a second time with manual partition settings, still the same thing. If I boot off the CD again the exact same files that appear in filesystem (which i presume is the RAMdrive) are sitting there on the HDD.


The poop am I doing wrong here? Do I have to create a bootloader or something?.. . it all seemed so straightforward and easy but then it no worky :(

which iso are you using? I got it installed on a VM and it went smoothly.

It was from some APC mag someone had at work, I just stole the ISO off that. All I know is the version... 7.04

in the bios:
turn off PNP os
turn off ACPI

Hrm ta didn't think of those, will give that a shot tomorrow and report back.

Tried both of those off, no different :(
