well what an awesome first multiday euro music festival just got home but was hella good arrived friday about 1pm was a long walk with our gear to the campsites and basically we just became sheep and followed the large stream of people who were being hearded into the festival from the acres of carparking all around the event. after being afraid of rain all week when we were in the que to get in a dark cloud descended right across the park and dumped on everyone.. the good news is this only lasted around 20 mins then the rest of the weekend was rain free which made everything alot more comfortable. the campsites were huge with around 6-7 sites each holding tens of thousands of tents off all sizes. getting to your tent was a lesson in tightrope walking as tents were jammed together and coming in after midnight basically you couldnt help but trip over everyones tent ropes. anyway straight to the action after dumping our bags in the tent that our friends put up for us. everything was hugely organised and the layout and preperation was hugely noticable and made the entire experiance that much better. first stop was to collect some lowlands cash.. which was basically bits of plastic that you buy for cash and as you get really drunk you forget how much your really spending.. as an aussie i had to be especially carefull cause s*** was crazy priced if you didnt do the maths in your head.. ie i bought water for everyone.. 200ml cup x 5 = 1 chip each.. ie 2.20 euro or 12 euro for 5.. now do the aussie conversion and i basically paid 20+ bux for 5 cups of water.. o wells anyway first off was the grolsch tent where the mad caddies were doing there crazy irish thing.. god bless em.. next off to the alpha tent which was absolutly huge .. think the biggest circus tent you ever saw.. with grassed banks on each side so basically it held maybe 20-30 thou people. next up was kasabian then a quick walk around to get some food before heading back to alpha for damian rice and then the highlight of the concert the killers. unfortunately damian rice was playing at the same time as airtraffic and mika and basically the g/f really wanted to see damian rice.. also killers was on at the same time as basement jaxx but killers was worth the sacrifice.. anyway after that it was back to the tent for a rest before an early day 2 day 2 we got back in and headed to the rifles which was pretty good.. then over to the black seeds which is a NZ band.. they were in a smal tent which suited there pub rock/indi thing they had going on.. then someone recommended Ojos De Brujo who are a spanish big band.. very talanted but too much political bulls*** and a few times they just spammed noise.. because we were so close it actually made us leave.. which didnt matter cause we got good standing room to see saybia who f***ing rocked everyones socks.. so much so that they had the biggest ovation at the end of the set and the strict timetable was broken so they could play 2 encores instead of 1.. being 3 back from the stage made the whole experience soo much better. then we met up with the gang on the bank of alpha for chris cornell who i thought was playing covers untill someone told me who he was lolz. anyway to finish off the night we saw Keiser Chiefs who rocked it up as the headline act of the day. after that we headed to a 90's party back in grolsch tent which was alot of fun.. day 3 everyone was a lil groggy but a couple of trays of coffie and some greasy food got everyone back in the mood for a day of music basically alot of good bands were playing in alpha so we f***ed around till 4:30 then sat in on the Kings of Leon followed by sonic youth who f***in sucked balls and were easily the worst band that i saw at the concert.. the typical 'foriegn' band comes to holland and forgets why they are there and just zoh my gads drugs lolz and get f***ing wasted before the show.. the bands that really appreciate the dutch really try hard to put on a good show and the f***heads just get stoned and fall about on stage till there slot is up. examples were when saybia played they recieved a double encore and were really humbled by the dutch support of there music. and then there was sonic youth were the chick singer was so stoned she didnt know 1 end of the mic from the other.. couldnt sing.. and basically spent most of her time swirling around and flaying her arms about whilst everyone was cheering for her to fall off the stage. anyway to set things right a huge improvement to the lineup with arcade fire who were just insane and very talented bring al sorts of instruments to the stage including a full f***in pipe organ lol. anyway headling sunday was tool which was a visually stunning set.. however i only knew a few of the songs and they really went to town on there on interpretation of there own music.. was an awesome visuall event but was lacking with croud participation.. i think having the killers headline on the sunday whould have been a whole lot sweeter either way it was an awesome event very well organised with more things to do then you can poke a stick at. the vibe was chilled with no aggressive drunks or fights and a whole lot of awesome music and good times |
