sup qgl, my name is bruce.

Basically i'm in the process of wanting to make a website similiar to www.carsales.com.au . Now i have a few questions regarding that and may need to get pointed to the right direction.

I've registered the domain, and in the process of sorting out the hosting. Now i don't know too much about websites and databases, but from what i understand a website similiar to carsales will require alot of database work (mysql?). So i'm after someone or if you can forward me to someone, who is good at database work. I am happy to pay to do this right. $$$

Secondly, Graphic designer and a website programmer (whatever they use these days to make websites) same as above if you can forward me to the right place or someone, i am happy to pay $$$ aswell, but i need a professional job.

Along my journey i came across this website called www.elance.com has anyone used this website at all?

You say similiar to carsales, but you really mean you love big fat cocks, right?

Ive got 7years + commercial db experience, and asp.net 3 years experience. I charge £55/hr here, but we could work something out.

You cant under estimate the scope of this project. Ive just built my site www.addanevent.com and its taken a good 6months, and still has alot of features missing.

Give me an email and lucas at lucas cullen dawt c0m

The other thing ive found is good help is very hard to find. Even any help! I've tried to pay people to help me and they are keen for the first 10mins. People seem to want to play WoW rather then make some money!

Somewhat related to this: QUT have a whole bunch of projects under the IT faculty which can be chosen for project implementation subjects. They are actual projects requested by consulting companies, web developers etc. and what they do is get the uni students to make it for them free of charge as assessment. I've done one website for a consulting company and this semester will be undertaking a few more projects from that list. Does anyone know how to get their projects listed? do you have to sleep with someone or do you just walk in and go hey I have a project for your IT project list?

whoop, it doesnt matter what the code base is, you just need to find reliable guys to do it. i havent found a relaible open source guy yet.

mySql just got stored pros ffs! its free software, and you get what you pay for! Also the resources and comminity / help / msdn for ms products is unbeatable.

but anyway, this isnt the time or the place. i think you should find your self good developers then choose the platforms based on them. you can always come back once your off the ground and making money and do a re write, or gradule migration.

mysql, like every single other piece of software ever invented, has its own perfect little place depending on what your needs are

We've just finished a .net/php hiring spree here at mammoth and it sure has been an interesting experience. I was going to do a write up when I had time of the experience because it was the first time I've been really directly involved in the hiring process (for programmers anyway).

Short version is, PHP guys are a dime a dozen, but generally without any real programming experience or strong theory. .NET guys are far harder to find.
