What's the best way to do it? I've been googling the .gov.au sites and they aren't 'super' helpful, though I did find this one - http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=5653 Says I can send one litre per year as a 'gift' to Aus, so I guess, the question is, can I send multiple 'gifts' to family members to get it home? Obviously I don't want the 3 bottles broken or smashed etc, so I will take great care packing and sending and get insurance etc, but has anyone else had any experience sending alcohol from o/s back to Aus? thanks! |

When moving back to Australia last year I sent all of my stuff in five cardboard boxes through the regular postal system (it worked out cheaper for the amount of stuff I had). Four of the boxes had a bottle of something in them, along with clothes and shoes and whatnot. The boxes were sent over the space of a month, and everything got through without trouble.

fair enough, doesn't sound too bad :)
I'm not planing on leaving here anytime soon though, just wanted to send them home as I have no intention of drinking them (well I will eventually, but letting them 'mature') heh |

Ok. I work at the Brisbane Airport Transit centre where all the express post, incoming and outgoing EMS's, international parcels are sent and received. I handle the express post and the incoming EMS's.
Tip number one, Don't be stingy and use lots of packaging. If you don't feel safe throwing the parcel from one wall to the other, pack it some more. This is absolutely critical as the incoming EMS's are thrown and handled very roughly. As goes for incoming Air parcels. If you are sending alchol from another country, the chances are it will be taxed for importing alchol. So if you buy the alchol duty free and send it home, it will be taxed when it goes through customs. (The same applies for tabbacco products, electronics, ect but the big ones are alchol and tabbacco) Apart from that, make sure you feel safe throwing it at a wall as well. Because the EMS's are sorted into Metal cages and are thrown in, and are sometimes used as soccer balls. |
