Well my current ATI X800 (gecube brand, 256Mb, PCI-E) is dying, it's fan is making annoying noises and barely spins, the fan inside it looks like too much of a pain in the arse to replace (anyone got any experience? is it worth it?) though it might be a good time to upgrade, anyone got any recommendations for a replacement? something just as good (if cheap) or preferably better for under $200?

Top 100 video cards as judged by someone knowledgeable I suppose. I got a 7600GT and its pretty good, runs WoW in full detail at 1680x1050 and C&C3 in high detail at the same res. Advantage is that its cheap enough ($130-150) so I'll probably get another one soon and use SLI.

Edit: L2LINK NOOB

1) get small screwdriver and unscrew fan from heatsink
2) clean out all the dust from the heatsink
3) peel back sticker covering the fan bearing
4) oil bearing using sewing machine oil or similar
5) replace sticker

Now your fan will most likely spin quietly, if its fully pwned and burnt out then its new card time, but a little bit of effort will save you some cash.

that lube trick seemed to have worked (for the past 30 mins anyway) so there goes my excuse to get a new video card :P

..runs WoW..

Don't you need like 2 8800GTX's to run that game?

Ticman, the list is cool, and no doubt vaguely right, but the top spot isn't an 8800 any more.

Looks like the 1Gig 2900 XT ddr4 in crossfire mode are the king.

I'm not sure how often the list is updated but it helped me a huge amount when trying to work out what's what in the video card world - also 1Gb for a video card is just *NUTS*

I replaced the fan on my GeCube X800 XT PE about 4 months ago, simple as, cost $25 for a new one. I put a silencer on it, runs really quiet. Nothing wrong with the X800 still a good card, I've got it running in my second PC, hasn't missed a beat in 3years. I'm running an 8800GTS not, pretty good value if you can stretch to the $450 mark.

You could always get a Zalman sink, but for an x800 why bother :P

The 8800GTX is no longer the Nvidia king, has anyone benched SLI 8800 Ultra's to compare to the crossfired 2900XT's?

I still can't imagine them being THAT much better as they just have the clocks set a bit higher than the GTX cards.
