Hey guys I have a friend who is trying to work out if he is being paid what he is worth and I have seen some of you recommend a site or two for working this sort of thing out in the past.

Unfortunately I didn't pay much attention at the time so don't remember what they were so if you can let me know or link me to them it would be a great help :D.

Thanks in advance.

if he lacks the skills to google his way to hays or payscale then he's worth nothing as an employee and less as a friend

That Hays list is pretty impressive.

The only Surveyor I could find though was a Mining Surveyor... And that Salary range is quite different to a Cadastral/Engineering/Land Surveyor thats based in Brisbane...

You'd think it would be in with Construction, but I couldn't see it :(

According to Pay Scale, I'm just above the Average. But in it's work hours thing I selected 40+ only because it didn't have a '9 day fortnight' to select.
So probably a little better.

If your friend is in IT then list his position and what his duties are, most of us could give you a reasonable good estimate on what he's worth.

According to Payscale, I'm 18k underpaid compared to 50% of others with the same position/experience, and 31k underpaid compared to the top 25%. I already knew I was underpaid, but not by that much.

Well, I don't mind too much because if I moved jobs I might end up in a job which doesn't allow me hours flexible enough to keep racing. But is it worth 30k/year? I'm really not convinced on that one.

I was offered a job about ~10k a year more. But the Office is down the coast so 30-40min extra Traveling (Each way) so an extra 1hr a day 'work' atleast. So thats ~250 hours a year, so thats more then 1/2 the raise. (Would be company car, so Fuel and what not doesn't count).

I know for a fact that I would have to work a lot harder (Private vs Public Sector) + Wouldn't have 9 Day fortnight. I have a good boss here too and nice people to work with.

Sometimes it's more than just the bottom Dollar.

An extra 20-30k though would *really* make me think about it...

Edit: Paveway, Does Fletcher still work there (He would now be Final year Surveying @ QUT... I think) he was a year under me but we had a few cross over subjects.
Do JFP do a 'finders bonus' still/at all? He'd be dirty if I didn't give it to him :p (I think he was @ JFP, might be mistaken though)

If you are a mamber of SAGE-AU they also do an anual salary survey. Theirs was pretty good last year.

www.sage-au.org.au

gg ausgamers forums require http:// in the links. Why do i have to be w3 compliant

Except you'd be a member of SAGE-AU and that's just as embarassing as getting paid below average.

Most of those pay scale things are vastly inaccurate because they are based on job postings and many recruitment companies post false job ads with massive salaries to attract candidates and collect their contact information.

They also don't count adverts with no pricerange with affects the median in both positive and negitive fashions.

The sites that use median values are ok if you'r seeking low and medium end stuff. I think there is a bit of a problem on high end stuff.
