end of fin year for me just means a mental month for July, 7 days a week at work, 10+ hours a day in the office, good times, good times...

that was when I was in Aus :p

Now, it doesn't impact me as much although I was there until 11:30pm on Friday night preparing s*** for FYE :/

the best way is to keep all your recipts for everything.

some things i can claim.

60 odd cents a k between jobs so i get about 20-30 bucks a day just to drive to work even if it is just for an hour.
i can claim laundry expenses because my work has a uniform.
any work clothes boots shoes etc i can claim on tax.
plus other s*** i don't worry about till next week

Just an FYI You can claim up to 5000km using the cents per km method. You can caculate the number of business kilometres traveled with a resonable estimate, i.e no real proof.

If you have more than 5000km of business related travel you can potentially deduct even more with other methods, such as 1/3 actual expenses (including depreciation) or the 12% of original value but these require substantiation of the expenses.

just beware of raising flags because once the ATO starts looking they won't stop until you are completely ruined.

I always thought you could only claim KMs that you drive while at work, not your daily commute to and from work.

I also believe its possible as an education expense, where you sometimes work from home, and your education will result in you getting better pay. You can claim work - study - home, or work - study - work, or home - study - work. But I'd check that one with an accountant. I know I used to via an account a few years ago.

You can also claim any expense (including mileage) incurred while doing your tax return. AFAIK

I'm under the lowest tax bracket (I think it's like $12,000).

So I get my $500 I pay in tax a year back ;) Government gets none of my money.

Well then, next time you get arrested, you can't say "I pay your wages pig!"

Dunno how you will encourage them to give you a strip search now... maybe you should show them your knife ... or your drugs ... or both

I deferred all payments, and had a total HECS debt of something like $27K or so I think I was. I'm 27 now and due to my income am paying the highest compulsory repayment (8% of income I think?).

Does anyone know how much one can claim on travel expenses relating to work without having receipts?

Found out I can claim a portion of fuel expenses for work, bit late now in keeping the receipts :(.

On topic, I think my employer sent my certs. to my old address, is there anyway I can request new ones (incase they don't get redirected)?

Maximum of 5000kms then it's $0.xx per km depending on the size of your engine.
