Interesting little tidbit on Ninemsn this morning :

The CIA offered $150,000 to members of the US mafia to kill Cuban President Fidel Castro with poison pills, according to previously classified documents which were released.

Makes you wonder all the goings on in history and the level of goverment involvement behind the scenes. Anyway, food for thought.

yeah, but at the same time, you have to understand, that it wasn't something that the CIA just said, hey, we're doing this. President Kennedy was enamoured with the idea that the CIA could assassinate people. and they really didn't do that sort of thing, so naturally they f***ed it up when they tried. this is what led to President Ford's executive order stating that foreign leaders were not to be assassinated, which is still in effect today. Although the sitting president could put it aside, so if gilligan in the white house at the moment wanted to, he could. but he'd much rather start a full scale war to do it.

Its the US ...

Land of freedom, justice, blind eyes and double standard...

Look up "Extraordinary rendition" some time.

Basically the CIA gives a prisoner to some f***ed up country where torture is legal or ignored, so they can be tortured.

But the US doesn't condone torture ...

Actually in a book released by the MI6 agent who was living in Tasmania..god I cant remember the book. Margaret Thatcher went to huge lengths to try and get it stopped under the UK Official Secret act...I'll try to trackit down. I own the book but its still paced away after our move...anyway in that book he clearly outlines the exact method( one of three they had on the table) of killing Castro..one was a super fine filament laced with ricin poisin in a cigar that was to be placed in one of Castro favourite cigar boxes he used. They had someone very close to him all lined up to make the placement. How it was to work was that when Castro opened the cigar box (it was one of his own that held 5 cigars and that he carried on him) anywah he opens the top of this container and it is primed with a magneseum? firing device..it fires the superfine filament laced with ricin into his face...goodbye Mr Castro.

**Found it..Peter Wright's - Spycatcher. Thats the book.

I love reading about the CIA and how they essentially tortured people with LSD in an attempt to find a suitable "truth serum".

Great read if you like farked government stories.
