Just let some off. Only half a pack left, which we'll save for tomorrow. The streets full of families letting them off. It's lovely. Already had one guy looking for his lost bluehealer, and cars have given up coming down our street cause they have to wait too long for each group to stop lighting new ones. Why they ban firework weekends every where else I just don't understand. |

pots not legal here but porn and fireworks are. They open temporary firework shops the week before and sell them to anyone with ACT proof of residency for use from 5PM-10PM Queens birthday long weekend.
The porn shops sell them that week too, but shops spring up everywhere. There's 3 in my suburb and about 5 adult shops not a 5 minute drive away selling them too. |

I remember like 7 - 8 years ago when my dad was a pie vendor, he used to serve the guys at a fireworks factory. One of the guys used to trade him all little nifty things for some steak sanga's.
Best fun was the little sky rockets, you would put the stem in a beer bottle and viola, handheld rocket gun you could aim :D Used to run around the yard with goggles on having battles. I remember we used to have "chicken" sort of contests where you would hold one of those TINY "tom thumbs" firecrackers in your hand, for the size of a tic tac, they sure f***ing hurt. Also "Bee's" FTW! Little gunpowder powered chambers that had wings on them... they would spin around at ridiculous speeds and then all of the sudden, BAM! Take off and fly across the road into the neighbours house. I think the biggest we ever got were "Double Bangers/Bungers", looked like a mini dynamite stick. Used to take them down to the beach and bury them in the sand, blew a pretty massive hole. |

Why they ban firework weekends every where else I just don't understand. I dunno, maybe because ... In 2003, four persons died and an estimated 9,300 were treated in emergency departments for fireworks-related injuries in the United States. source is the CDC |

And 220+ million people had an enjoyable night out watching the pretty flashing lights and loud noises. |

Because they are effectively explosive devices that can seriously injure other parties though, I personally think that them being outlawed isn't actually that bad an idea. (nb, my father is an eye doctor so I am heavily biased based on years of indoctrination about anything that could cause eye injuries - but when I try to think about it objectively, letting random drunk a******s shoot off fireworks still doesn't seem like a great idea) |

If they banned alcohol then the people would be sober firing them off and have less injuries. But whats the point when most people aren't retarded. Where does it stop, just about everything is dangerous in one way or another. I'd love to see a list of the inane things that can cause deaths that would account for more than 4 a year.

I'd imagine when they ban something like this, they do a pro's and con's type thing.
Windows are useful. Fireworks are cool. ps. I don't agree with it. I am just pointing out why. eg.Some red neck give their 2 year old fireworks, and they blow off its hand. Next day Koshie would be on Sunrise with the fun police. That or there would be some civil lawsuit against someone... |

Where does it stop, just about everything is dangerous in one way or another.Well I think there's a clear difference between 1) things that mostly just hurt yourself (smoking, drinking, taking drugs (though arguably they can sometimes hurt others, but by far most of the harm is done to yourself), parachuting, etc) 2) things that have a high risk potential of hurting other people (eg throwing rubbish out of moving cars or off buildings) For me its really just about what risks your actions pose to other people / innocent bystanders. If you want to do something that puts yourself at risk, I'm ALL FOR IT. You should have the freedom to do whatever you want. I _hate_ smoking, as many of my previous posts indicate otherwise, but as long as your smoking doesn't affect me, then you should be able to do it aaallll you want. But as soon as you want to do something that puts the safety, health, or lives of others at dangers then its a different story. I think there should be massive punishments/fines for the obvious things (throwing things out of car windows for eg - I keep using that example because I hark back to ages ago when I heard about some dude that was hospitalised by someone throwing a rock out of a moving car; it went through his windscreen and put him in a coma) |

More tonight
http://lh3.google.com.au/image/nickbeagley/Rmvo0IM3NyI/AAAAAAAAA-Y/iCmX1rfLVv4/s144/P1010698.JPG It's quietened down now, looks like most people are good with the 5PM-10PM rule. http://lh4.google.com.au/image/nickbeagley/RmvowYM3NtI/AAAAAAAAA9w/UgtoZEqjBuw/s144/P1010638.JPG We finished off the rest of ours, but there were two families out back letting of some amazingly cool ones, so we will go buy some more tomorrow for the final night. http://lh5.google.com.au/image/nickbeagley/RmvoxoM3NvI/AAAAAAAAA-A/14gCsP8nBeY/s144/P1010669.JPG Can't wait for tomorrow night http://lh4.google.com.au/image/nickbeagley/RmvozYM3NxI/AAAAAAAAA-Q/HxJs_SI_UVo/s144/P1010686.JPG Lots of families around here from all over Australia, and everyone is loving it. I can't believe the amount of support for the nanny state around here. You guys complain when computer games get blamed for violence or the calls to censor our internet go out, yet you scream 'think of the children' when there's one weekend a year when heavily regulated fireworks can be sold and left off for five hours a night.
No wonder our governments get away with so much. Next there'll be support on here for mechanically capping all vehicles at 40KM/H and you have to apply for a timed unlock code to be able to drive your car outside of city bounds at over 60KM/H (but less than 80). |

as I said, I don't support nanny state at all. nanny state implies stopping people hurting themselves.
fireworks are dangerous, and they're treated like toys when they shouldn't be |
