Has anyone had experience doing this ?
I have about three years of gym membership fees here I have just got my hands on, the MBF website says 6 month waiting period, $50 per person.. Is this something that is most easily done at a branch IE indro ? |

why not f*** off out of a thread if you've got nothing useful to add to it?
Fair enough, asking MBF or the gym is a good starting point, but he's clearly asking in case anyone has experience doing the same thing themselves, and given all the gym going regulars on here it's a completely fair question. If you have nothing to add to threads, rather than adding useless stuff just stay out of it and let it gracefully drop to the bottom if everyone else agrees with you and decides its not worthy of a response. |

I doubt they would let you claim for prior year's gym memberships.

Maybe its conditional, depending on why you're at the gym. If you're fat and trying to lose weight and going there to get healthy, you've probably got a better chance at being able to claim it than if you're just going there to beefcake.

I was with Medibank Private (since changed to AHM) and had $150 a year with which I could use on various things (It could be saved up to a maximum of $500). Im pretty sure this could have been used for that purpose (Unsure if MBF has something similar) but I used mine for physio for a broken ankle.

MBF and Fitness First have a special discount, which works out better than the $50 claim you can make apparently
Medibank used to do a claim system, but only if you got a letter from your doctor saying you need to go to Gym because you are clinically obese or something |

I called MBF about this and they said I needed to go see a physio, and get a written letter from them that I go to the gym before they would honor the rebate.
I said that's a bit odd, how about I just give you my gym membership number and you can use that instead? And she apologised and said I have to do the above ^ |

It has nothing to do with being overweight, etc..
It is part of their "living well" program. i.e. - you go to the gym, you get rewarded |

when i read up about that on their website it seemed you required documentation from a medical professional saying that the gym was to help you with some sort of medical condition...ie. general fitness, body tone etc. don't count.

It would be very easy to ask your doctor for a note saying you need the gym to maintain good health.

Too good to be true ? From what I've gathered, its $50 per year, with a six month waiting period...
So it costs them under $3 a month to make the offer... Not too f***ing good to be true if you ask me.. I just wanna know if they will backpay, otherwise its not worth it |

they will not back pay and it is not on a general gym membership.
You need documentation from a doctor/physio that says that due to your medical condition be it weight, injurys etc you need to go to the gym. They will then provide you with $50 PER YEAR after the claim. It does not cover going to the gym cause you want to. It must be MEDICAL. |

Um.... if I don't go to the gym, I won't be as healthy and I'll have a higher risk of developing heart disease and my life expectancy will be about 20 years less than the average white Australian male. Is that enough of a medical reason?

Nah, from what I was told has nothing to do with medical or weight issues. It's part of the living well program. Unless it's changed, which I doubt.
You go to the gym and life a healthy life, it's only logical they will reward you for that. Unless someone has called up and can state otherwise? I called up a few years ago. |

I didn't ended up claiming it because after knowing I had to go to a physio to get a written letter that I was using a gym (which they had on their books as an accepted gym) to claim a reward I just hung up the phone and thought f*** IT.
I'm paying through the nose for my health insurance, but I'm sure it will come in handy when my lifestyle requires a new liver or lungs or whatever, lol. But then again, maybe it won't! Then they can laugh at me and be rich etc and I'll be dying so it won't really matter by then. Life is good. |

Well, after visiting some girl at Indro this morning, she told me nothing but good news. Yes I would be able to claim upto $100 a year with my Membership, but also another $100 a year through my parents membership if they had not claimed gym already...
She said I just needed the receipts from the gym, which I had, but they were at work, so I said I would drop them in at lunch time. Lunch time, I ended up going to Toombul because its closer to work, and the f***ing woman told me $50 a year, only two years, no parents account rape, and I needed to fill out the form below. f***ing pain in the ass, waste of a lunchtime. Gonna go back and abuse the Intro woman next week. http://www.josh.net.au/images/albums/userpics/10001/img-6011555-0001.jpg |

Hmmm instead of throwing abuse could you just pretend that what she said is still truth and take all the relevant documentation? Then if she changes her mind -> abuse:O
