I'm sure plenty of you have thought at least once, which are the best console controllers out there. |

What a stupid list. Atari 2600? That was just a means to an end. GTFO.

What the hell, n64 controller was a heap of s*** imo. Awkward to use 2 handed. Dual shock was far better.
And atari 2600... haha what a joke. Important maybe, best not a chance. A digital (as in only on or off) stick is the dumbest idea ever. |

They've just listed them in chronological order, and focus on the standard controllers for each system.

IMHO:- Xbox controller is too chunky, D pad was also chunky and stiff and gave me blisters, and i loath those L & R springy trigger buttons. The x360 controller feels a lot more natural and fluid but im yet to give it a good bash. - Gaypube had those s***ty X and Y buttons and generally badly positioned and out of shape face buttons. - N64 controller fits nicely in your palm but it still sucked cause of those tiny face buttons and dodgey loose control stick, and how hard was it accessing that L button when using the control stick? D pad was also stiff as my zubb. - Dual shock for the PS was good s***, though i'm not a big fan of 4 trigger buttons on top, but it's something you get used to. - Couldn't find too much wrong with the SNES controller so no complaints there to say the least. - SEGA was just a s***ty system so i wont even go into its controllers. p.s. I'm a big fan of technical beat' em up games so the D pad needs to work well with the face buttons. That's why i'd say the ps dual shock and snes top the list for me, otherwise i'm not too fussy when playing other game genres (though keyboard/mouse is pivital for FPS's). *Gasp* last edited by Suckah-Free at 19:21:59 29/May/07 |

Stupid idea for a best-of list :(
Every controller is heavily contextualised to the console's era, and the games made for it. Would anyone really think the Wii remote was so revolutionary if not for Wii Sports?! |

That's exactly my point! Any game that used the L button and the analog stick on the N64 was just badly made, but it reflects on the controller itself. |

The problem with the n64 is that it had 2 controller stances (for lack of a better word), one that felt natural but didn't let you use half the keys (holding it like a gun) and one that felt like s*** and let you use everything but the main stick. Its a bad design, and the console itself was an underpowered piece of s***.

the console itself was an underpowered piece of s***. How was it underpowered? The N64 was considerably more powerful then the Saturn and more then the Playstation. |

Would anyone really think the Wii remote was so revolutionary if not for Wii Sports?!Have you played a wii since launch week? We are still on first generation games so there's nothing revolutionary about improvements in the controllers' use but it feels extremely natural and other controllers just seem wrong. From pirates 3 to heatseeker and bust-a-move it just feels right. With the slew of new games fast approaching i expect that to be even more reinforced. Mortal Kombat (released next week i believe) will be the real test, followed by resident evil and Mario Party 8. Games like bust-a-move may just use it as a laser-pointer type controller, while pirates may use it for its slashing, and you can say that's not revolutionary and in themselves the uses aren't, but together it makes an awesome, versatile and natural control tool. Dissing it because the only impressive thing you've seen on it is wii sports (which is amazingly cool) is so very QGL! Edit: And i completely forgot Call of Duty. As far as controls for console FPS's go it's hard to pass on the wii and this is the perfect example. last edited by natslovR at 21:24:30 29/May/07 |
