with all the current shows ending I thought it might be a good time to catch up on some shows I've missed, anyone got any recommendations? are weeds or 30 rock any good?

These are the shows I have been watching to avoid naming the same and to give you an idea of what I like

Entourage
Heroes
Lost
Battlestar Galactica
24
Smallville
Dexter
Rome
Deadwood
Family Guy
South Park
Extras
Arrested Development
EDIT> Forgot a few..
Prison Break
Scrubs
Black Books
League of Gentlemen
Jericho
Trailer Park Boys

I did watch most of the first season of the office (US) but never really bothered downloading the rest though, do they get better?

I started watching American Dad too but gave up on it

Taste noted and flavours suggested that you may enjoy when you purchase future DVD set releases....

The Shield
The Unit
~ If you like The Unit, there is a pommie show that deals with the trials an tribulations of a British SAS unit that goes by the unfortunate name of "Ultimate Force" - same action vibe with classic british humour, less desperate wife stuff

If you like SouthPark for keeping it real, try a stronger stench called "Drawn Together" political and social correctness is thrown clean out the window (usually while it's still closed!)
/end .2c

PS: Chris Ryan (actual ex-SAS guy behind movie Bravo Two Zero is a consultant in this shows production [if I have my facts correct - feel free to correct me] )

PPS: One of the SAS squads members is none other than Suresh from Heroes :)

PPPS: Lee Adama (Battlestar galactica) may or may not be an english speaking "Rupert" in charge of the squad!!!

I really like The Unit.

It's about some covert ops guys doing counter-terrorist stuff in places that you could make CS maps out of. The main character played David Palmer (the president) in 24.

Very enjoyable:

word to all your selections wet. although i've never seen bsg. maybe i should.

I get almost all o that plus sopranos, the wire, rescue me, and the 2 stargates.

I have also found the US office to be VERY entertaining. Not quite comparable to the uk version, just different and also good. afterall, it IS written by gervais and merchant aswell. i'd definetely recommend.

Also, if u haven't seen Curb Your Enthusiasm, get all of it.

:)

lolz, NCIS, tv for dumb people (right up there with CSI and all its spins offs, total rubbish)

the only tv worth watching is:

the bill (actually still watch it on tele, still the best character driven show on the box and has been for 20 years, although got the wobbles atm)

entourage, best characters, best script, period. as good as american tv gets

and heroes, mainstream gear that doesnt suck

oh and scrubs, still funny 6 seasons in and occasionly learn something

ive been meaning to get around to watching my name is earl, will do when i get a chance

From your list I don't watch bsg, deadwood or extras. I'd add to my list Kat's list and:
Scrubs
Sopranos
Two and a Half men
The office US (imo it seems to get better)
Black books

I've started watching the riches. It has started off slow but I think it might grow on me.

Spook and Alize: Yeah I neglected to mention I watch scrubs and black books as well :) I'll update my list with those I've forgotten :)

How I met your Mother
Medium
The Shield (Definitely, it's the best show on TV)
Oz

I've tried The Traveller, first episode seemed ok, in that lame-o non-serious pretty boy prison break sort of way. Gonna watch the 2nd ep before ditching.

I just stumbled upon "The Riches" and am 6 eps in and loving it.

Brief plot outline - family of gypsies (husband, wife and 3 kids) who go around stealing and conning people to make ends meet are involved in an accident with a rich couple who end up dead. They basically steal their lives or as they put it "steal the American dream". He takes the dead guys place as a lawyer and obviously has no knowledge of the law etc which makes for some great situations you wonder how the hell hes going to get out of.

Totally not going to make sense how they can steal their lives just like that, so you will just have to watch it to find out how :)

My regular list is as follows:

Heroes
Prison Break
Entourage
My Name Is Earl
The Unit
Scrubs
The Office (US)
Everybody Hates Chris
24

Rescue Me was also a good series I am eagerly awaiting the next season of.

How come noone ever suggests Big Love?!?!

I was in the US last year when this was screening and watched almost the whole thing On Demand on my relatives cable (US cable f***ing pwns all over .au cable with the On Demand stuff). Definitely worth checking out. HBO + Bill Paxton == recipe for success!

Wet, grab season 2 and 3 of The Office. It's a million times better than the first season and there's like 24 eps in each. Plus Dwight rocks extremely hard.

Also, Ugly Betty is a damn cool show as well. It's extreme cheese but it's f***ing hilarious. And get 30 Rock as well, even if it's only for Alec Baldwin because without him the show would be crap. And for something a little different try Deadliest Catch. A Discovery Channel show about crab fishing boats that head out into the Berring sea (sp?) in North America. Not s***ty little canoes, these are like the boats in Perfect Storm. Wild weather and wild times for all involved.

I found The Office got really good after the first season. 3rd season has been the best of it so far, I actually prefer it over the UK version now.

I'm the biggest Scrubs fan there is, but Season 6 (and 4/5 to a lesser degree) absolutely sucks balls compared to 1 - 3.

It's still a good show to watch and better then 99% of the crap out there, but it has just turned into stupid, random, stoner type humour.

edit: Season 4 gets a break because Heather Graham is f***ing gorgeous ;)

Sorry Chub, I'd bet my gf is a bigger fan than you.. we have S1-4 on DVD (S5 is out in June) and she's probably watched them plus S5/S6 at least 5 times. She'll just put the DVDs on one after the other and sit there for hours.

My TV list;

- Heroes
- Sopranos
- House
- Weeds
- Scrubs
- BSG
- Studio 60 (but it's canned I think)
- Smallville
- Jericho (canned now)
- Top Gear

Her TV list;
The above minus BSG but add in Gilmore Girls and Greys.

I got 1 to 4 on DVD, 5 and 6 somewhere else :)

I've watched every episode on the DVD's about 15 - 20 times each (I think I had a problem at one stage).

I just got into the habit of watching 8 - 10 episodes a night, every night, without fail...

also, the wire is possibly my favourite show of all time. buikding casework from the ground up and no f***ing csi stylez blue torches. real POlice.

season 6 is awesome

me and wifey scored the first 5 seasons, and sat and watched them relentlessly after never really watching the show on tele

we both love it and crave it coming out weekly now

i love a bit of drama with my comedy, and i love the random s*** they pull in scrubs

very much my style of humour

Have to agree with Rev on this one, at first I thought "Who the f*** wants to watch a show about people fishing?" but I've seen the first 4 eps of season 3 and thought "Holy s***!!". Three people dead in the first episode. Worth having a look at.

yer, we've watched a bit of Dealiest Catch, on discovery channel when we find it

pretty amazing what they go through, just to catch pink crabs!

dunno if i could watch seasons of it though

was pretty moving watching the ep, where the crew thought their boat was going to go down, so they abandoned ship, and all but one of them drowned

the next day however they found the boat rightside up and still afloat

that would be pretty emotional

I still haven't watched all of 6, didn't like it much... the musical episode though was a breath of fresh air (Anthony Head/Giles was actually in musical theatre prior to Buffy, very good vocalist).

Season 7, I watched about 3 episodes... and decided I would rather pretend they didn't exist and live in denial :)

Oh I forgot to mention a documentary series called "Man vs Wild" its pretty interesting. What happens is some english army guy gets dropped by helicopter into some dangerous area like the Moab desert or costa rican rain forest with only a water bottle and a knife. He shows you how to survive and make it out.

if you have cable watch Balls of Steel on the comedy channel. they have a number of regular acts that try to compete for who has the biggest balls of steel. these acts include the annoying devil, the the militant black guy, neg's urban sports and Alex Zane's gameshows.
