Hey funsters!

I bought a 32" tv / monitor today and the max res for it 1360x768. Is there anyway I can run my video card at that res so it doesn't look so chunky browsing the net and playing games? Watching movies looks great just not the others. At the moment my video card is set to 1280x768 which is the closest I can get to the native res.

I downloaded Powerstrip but I cant find the option in there to force the card to run at that res.

Thanx.

I just go through the nvidia driver settings. If I try and clone the picture on both monitors it will either have to be the 1024x1280 on both or 1360x768 on both so I usually choose single display and select the tv (I have a 37" tv). When I choose single display nvidia detects the resolutions the TV supports and 1360x768 is on the list.

This is why you don't buy a television to use as a monitor.

^ what he said, i have a 32" samsung 320p monitor for a tv/meda centre and it's great for that (1366x768) I have used it for my pc and it's ok but the low rez is a bit poofull, you might need to remove the pnp monitor driver and graphics drivers then reinstall to get it to the correct ratio.

Probably just a case of needing the proper display drivers for the TV.

There's an option in something to "add extra HD resolutions" to the list. I can't remember whether that's in powerstrip or in the nvidia control panel somewhere as I haven't used powerstrip since my gf4 ti4200 days. Anyway, it adds a bunch of funky stuff but in the advanced res part of powerstrip you can actually define your own resolutions & refresh timings so give that a whirl.

rev, using vga to input?

u probably need to go hdmi matey

most vga tv inputs will only do 1280 x 768 (widescreen version of 1024 x 768)

rev, are you trying to run it at native using DVI or VGA?

I know with mine and many other 32" lcd tv's, they don't do the native on DVI, only on VGA and maybe Svideo.

DVI output with converter to VGA will work of course, but DVI --> DVI, no.

Sorry I took so long to get back.

Yeah, I'm using the HDMI to DVI cable if that's the name of it. So you reckon I should try the normal VGA connection instead? I had a mate around a bit earlier and we were stuffing around with the Powerstrip thingy and everytime we told it to go 1366x768 it would go back to 1280x768. He also suggested trying the VGA one too as he's had issues using the DVI one. I'll try and get hold of the other cable tomorrow and see what happens.

On a positive note, my PS2 looks great playing thru the monitor. Looks very sexy indeed. Love to see a 360 or PS3 running on here as well. This is the one I bought. Yes, it's not top of the line but it's good for what I need it for.

I just found this from a couple of google searches

Connect with VGA instead of DVI/HDMI
The reason why you can't use over 1280x720 with DVI/HDMI is because the panel dictates what resolutions it can handle via EDID. The PC will only listen to EDID for viable resolutions. DVI makes use of EDID, VGA doesn't. If you want to get 1:1, use VGA.

Select 1360x768
95% of video cards only support resolutions that are cleanly divisible by 8. 1366 is not therefore it doesn't matter what you do, if the video card can't do it, it won't happen regardless of the software. 1360x768 may not show up in your default options, download Powerstrip and set it (I'm using the "1360x768 (PDP)" option).

Open your panel's menu, select 'Autofit'
After you select 1360x768, the image will look messed up, either scrunched, or to the left, whatever. Running the Autofit process centers and fixes the screen.

Switch back to TV mode to save the settings

Voila, 1:1 with your PC.

Try that out

mess around with TrueType/ClearType fonts too, that often makes a difference. Also your DPI on the fonts should change, if you're sitting fairly close you'll want to adjust it

I'm using 1280x768.
Looks perfectly fine to me.

Even some games run in that res (WoW).

How much did that DVI-HDMI cable set you back?

I used one when I first had the LCD but opted for a DVI-VGA connection instead.

The picture was way sharper.

Also my HDMI cable cost around $100 if I remember. Returned it for a refund. Waste of money IMO.

I fixed it today by buying a VGA-VGA cable and now it lets me run at the correct rez. Looks alot better than it did running at 1280 that's for sure.

Thanks for the help guys.

yah thought it would, at first I thought it was just my dodgy "Sampo" brand unit that I bought, but then I learned that it wasn't. If it's 480p/i or 560p/i (or whatever) compliant with HD, it should be able to take the Widescreen Hi-Def resolutions you can force in the Nvidia control panel under the refresh rate settings (can't remember EXACTLY where, but it should be there somewhere) I had to do it once for Svideo connection to a plasma which wasn't accepting anything higher that 800x600 (laaaaame).
