hi all

just a quick one (about to get a new PC for my father)

this machine does NOT play games, its just for his work/emails/random internet stuff and he may watch the occasional dvd on it.

system:
intel core2duo e4300
Asus P5VD2 motherboard PCIe (any other suggestions for a cheap sub $100 mboard)?
kingston 2g ram
albatron 7300GT 256meg
windows vista home prem
etc

now two questions:

1. Would the 7300GT be better than the onboard video cards on these cheap motherboards?

2. Would the onboard card be good enough to run windows vista with all the aero options or whatever they are called turned on. Basically dad wants it to look neat.

It is paired with a 19inch lcd, normal res.

Thanks guys

are u serious?

very much doubt an onboard could run aero, and even if it could it would run so s*** it wouldnt be worth it

As already said onboard won't cut it.

7300GT will be fine for Aero.

I would recommend the P5L-MX mainboard as well for a low end config, the p5v series boards are balls.

unfortunatley for my dad, unless it says windows, and runs exactly ms office he wont put any money anywhere near it

he is a big firefox fan however, thats his redeeming grace, hes 55 yrs old and promotes firefox to his colleagues like a trooper :)

i had a look at this, however the case he 'wants' (ie likes the look of the best) will only fix micro atx

Its the same size as a p5vd2 so I don't forsee a problem with it fitting. Plus its intel chipset based rather than VIA which is a steamy pile of s***.

^^^ yer my "friend" just bought a new pc & bought a via based motherboard, me and the army of ninjas that reside in my head laughed our asses off at him for it. Especially since I'd just told him to NOT buy it but it was "part of the package".

vista ran nicely on my x1300 ati card, well at least the beta version of vista that ms released all those months ago. I would assume (and hope) the final release would run even better.

Work/emails/random internet stuff? What, Linux can't do that? It's clearly more thought out than upgrading your video hardware so you can RUN AN OPERATING SYSTEM

but.. that's the point. You don't need to put money near it.

Wait, has your dad used aero glass before? If he's just gonna turn the s*** off after a week or two then whats the point?
