Hey guys i want to upload a video to youtube (lol) its like 200mb and i need to cut it down to 100mb or under... the movie was taken on a camcorder so its full good quality and stuff, all the videos on myspace/youtube are crappy quality - is there a way i can convert my movie to crappy youtube quality somehow?

Import it in, then save it as a different format or to fit a certain size

okidokoi so im using movie maker but when i import my clip in it plays sound but no video. the clip is .mpg and it works fine in VLC so im assuming its just a codec thing. any ideas or suggestions on which codec pack to download for windows media player to play mpegs?

You'll need VirtualDubMod if it's an MPEG, regular VirtualDub cannot open MPEG files.

yep the pretty black one for xp - i opened up the video in stand alone WMP and it worked fine... windows movie maker 2 keeps randomly crashing as well so i tried using some other program called Avid free DV which was suppose to be ducks nuts but it conflicted with my sound card and wouldnt start >_<

im just using google video desktop uploader (tael ftw) - forgot all about it. The desktop uploader is even working through my proxy, very leet.

Doing anything useful in video pretty much f***ing sucks at the moment thanks to the massive variety of codecs that are half-assedly supported. Juarez s*** like xvid means proper software developers are less likely to support it, so its often hard to find applications that will gracefully deal with every single media type that you have.

If you wanted to cut it down further, I would:

1) install VirtualDubMod
2) install Xvid
3) use VirtualDubMod to open up your MPEG and write it out to a decently compressed Xvid

If you don't want to use Xvid because of the patent issues, you can change the last two steps:

2) install Windows Media Encoder
3) use VirtualDubMod to write out the file as a raw uncompressed AVI or Indeo 5.10 or something
4) use Windows Media Encoder to write it out

1) install VirtualDubMod
2) install Xvid
3) use VirtualDubMod to open up your MPEG and write it out to a decently compressed Xvid

1) install ffdshow, virtualdub mpeg (kinda like vdubmod)
2) open your s***
3) output as xvid, divx, h264, or any other fancypants codec ffdshow's encoder will support :D

p.s. I prefer virtualdub mpeg over virtualdub mod but either will do fine I think.

Do what whoop suggests is prolly better; just installing ffdshow should do the trick.
