OK so i completely bailed on the gaming scene a few years ago and have only just bought a computer again as of this weekend

basically - just to bring me up to speed - what would ya's all rate as some of the better games that have come out in the last couple of years? I left the scene right after HL2 was realeased and I have no idea what has come out since :)

interested in any genre, except RPG :P

No.1 pick wouild be to get your self a copy of Company of Hero's. Great game.
BF2 and its free mods Eve of Destruction and Desert Conflict.
Half Life 2 if you missed that one as well.

Company of Heroes dude, check that s*** out. It's one of the only games in the last two years worth playing.

Another vote for Company of Heros. At was so good that you ended up wanting more, so it makes it seem short :(

Stalker is pretty cool. Bioshock is coming out sometime soonish, definatly worth a looksy.

id love to recommend splinter cell double agent, but i really cant. its a kick ass game but the bugs in it are so bad. (took me 4 seperate graphics driver installs, the amd dual core optimiser and a windows patch to even let me see the game while i was playing) anyway, a quick list.

fps - stalker, hl:ep 1
rts - c&c 3 and supreme commander.i just couldnt get into CoH. i tried, i really did.
driving/puzzle - trackmania united

I'll admit my interest in WoW has come and gone over the last few years, but I would have to give it some points due to its popularity and ability to come back to it, if only for a few months at a time.

Supreme Commander would have to be up there. Twilight Princess definitely gets my vote as far as console games go.

I'd also like to nominate a game before it's even released: Spore.

that flash turrent game (fire earth water arrows etc) someone posted here ages ago

i would say oblivion, but it should have had better game play (looked pretty)
in fact all games released in the last 2 years have pretty much sucked

i've been tempted to try out dark messiah but noone seems to be mentioning it so i won't bother.

what i really want is a FPS style diablo/titan quest game - does such a thing exist?

i thought oblivion had great gameplay, especially when on hard, the fighting feels really good and you cant hack and slash on hard. i feel that the world could of been bigger though.

Another vote for Company of Heroes here.

It has been the only game I have consistantly come back to play. Usually over a hamachi LAN with mates playing against expert AI. We've had some truely epic battles where we've been pushed all the way back the last territories and clawed our way back for victory.
