sup guys.
finally, were telling telstra to f*** off! should have happened a long time ago, but yeah it hasn't. im now looking for a good ADSL plan recommended by some of you guys :) is the standard this ADSL2 now? what is adsl2? i did a quick forum search for adsl and saw adsl2 said a fair bit. Basially i would be happier sacrificing a bit of raw speed (i.e at the moment i can download up to like 700kb/sec from gamearena sites, i wouldnt mind if it was capped out at around say 200-400) for a larger cap, because i end up getting capped every month now on 10gig due to ventrilo and my lost addiction, and when youre capped its an absolute joke. Also, how much bandwith (kb/sec) is needed to get a ping of say under 80 in fps games like cs / tribes 2 / quake 3 etc, and a respectable ping on wow? thanks for your help! |

adsl2 is what i got
speeds up to 24mbit (3mb/s) depends how close you are to your exchange and what condition your lines are in and ull need a phone line im with iinet and they rule, people like inode as well, check the websites, id definatley go with one of them have a look at the broadband comparison on whingepool for all your options pings wont be affected by line speed, so that doesnt matter adsl2 doesnt seem to be more expensive than most adsl1 accounts dunno what you pay with telstra, but for 70bux with iinet, we get 20gig/20gig offpeak (bundled with iinet phone, hardly use it, so its no drama) last edited by Spook at 18:58:18 22/Apr/07 |

iinet and internode seem to be the go. I'm with iinet and reasonably happy. Telstra had better uptime but iinet for the 40gig per month and faster speeds. I am pretty far away from my exchange and have s***ty line quality therefore I am only getting 500kb/s.

Yeah , i just looked at the internode webpage. My house is not able to get the ADSL2+ from internode. Does that mean that its out of the question from iinet / all other ADSL ISP'S?
what do you think about this plan HOME-High-Power20 $79.95 Min: 1500k/256k Max: 8000k/384k 20 GB Shaped (20gig is heaps, but it seems a bit much for what im getting) |

If you can't get ADSL2+, stay away from iiNet.
Their ADSL1 plans are incredibly poor. In fact, the maximum quota you can get on any of their ADSL1 plans is 9GB! Their ADSL2+ plans are fine, if you can get it. I'd highly recommend Internode if you're going the ADSL1 path. Very reliable, heaps of free mirrors and game servers, and they won't screw you over. Just make sure you view the full plan list, as the main page only shows a subset. Full plan list: http://www.internode.on.net/adsl/pricing/home.php?plans=all Don't be afraid to go the 1.5Mbps speed. It will give you 155kB/s, but you pay $20 less than the 8Mbps plan with the exact same quota. Good if you value price/quota more than raw speed. |

ADSL2+ speeds are dependent on how far away from your exchange you are. I recently got it and am only about to sync at about 3.5mbit (400k/s).
To be able to provide adsl2+ the ISP has to have their own equipment in your exchange, so if Internode don't have theirs in your exchange, iiNet / others may still. I wouldn't consider iiNet unless you can get ADSL2+ through them. They don't seem to be interested in keeping their Telstra Wholesale customers. I'm on Node and after a few early teething problems, everything is now looking good. |

yeah i can't get internode ADSL2+, but i can get iinet adsl2+
this is looking good, what do you guys reckon. home 5 - $69.95 up to 24,000k/1,000k 20GB + 40GB $79.90 that is ADSL2+ iinet package, with the $9.95 VOIP (which i have NFI what is) but when you bundle the VOIP in which costs 9.95 you get another 10gig peak /20gig offpeak, for 10 bucks, so ur allowance doubles for 10 bucks.. good value if you ask me. |

with the $9.95 VOIP (which i have NFI what is) If you're going to be wasting $10 for VoIP, which you have no idea about .. How about unticking VoIP and ticking Phone Advantage (+ $34.95) instead. That way you'll at least benefit in some way with cheap local calls (click here for call costs). But obviously that means switching over to iiNet as your phone provider. |

ive heard a fair few horror stories about signing up to iinet (we had a few mini dramas moving a connection)
but once up and running, i cant fault iinet at all voip is worth while if you are going to use it CHEAP PHONE CALLS if you're not going to use it, dont bother, just ditch your telstra line and get the iinet phone bundle |

If you've got lot's of extra wiring coming off the line you plan to use for your adsl, you may get some signal degradation. Try and keep the line as short and clean as possible after the external termination point at your house.
I've seen 10db or more signal loss on lines that have been connected to lot's of home ports, or run through certain pieces of equipment. Especially important for adsl2 i'd imagine, though I've only played with adsl1 myself. Pity voip still isn't terribly reliable QoS wise over adsl or you're dad could scrap paying for so many lines at once and switch all the phones over to virtual numbers. last edited by icewyrm at 22:36:16 22/Apr/07 |

If you're going to be wasting $10 for VoIP, which you have no idea about .. With the VOIP option though you get massive extra quota. I would just consider it $10 per month for triple downloads: 69.95 (10+10) or 79.95 (20+40) |
