West Indies captain Brian Lara has announced he will retire from all international cricket after Saturday's World Cup match against England.

Lara, who is 38 on 2 May, had already said he would quit one-dayers but was expected to play in the four-Test series in England, which begins in May.

Champion player. I can still remember the days when the Windies used to pound us. Largely thanks to this bastard.

Sad day for cricket, gonna be a big rebuilding phase for the Windies...they looked pretty hopeless this WC if not for Lara's contribution.

You can't really say he's retiring early... I mean his performances are on a steady decline now and hes 38!!!

I never said he was?

But i do agree. We can only hope this forces the Windies to seriously evaluate how they administer cricket. There's no question they should have the talent and physical ability (zomg racist!) it's really a question of money and smarts.

Really? I sware he averaged 80+ in his last test series with 3 tons and a double ton thrown in for good measure....

pretty steady decline that one.

Ever since walsh and ambrose retired the west indies team declined dramatically..

I'm suprised lara had survived as long as he did..
