Yeah, I had my first lock-up before, my case was hotter than the top of my monitor, and I took the panel off, and burnt my finger touching the HDD bay.

Farken heeeeeell.

How's everyone else's PC's holding up?

I dont have temp sensors, so I dunno actual temps, but i would say pretty hot.

I'm only running 2 fans. CPU fan and PSU fan.

Having a CPU that is designed to run at high temps, like most AMDs, is actually not such a bad thing. Being so hot already the ambient temp has less effect on the cpu and heatsink. In a cold country tho an AMD probably wouldnt last as long as an Intel.

does this mean if you didnt have to worry about temperatures, and not have to worry about your chip frying cus of heat, intel will last longer? does amd burn out after a few years or somthing, cus quite franlky, i got no idea what your be jibba jabbin on about.

I wish that was true.

What I meant about AMDs in a cold country is that when you turn your PC off their temperture would drop from about 60 degrees to maybe near 0 if you live in a really cold place. The CPU might suffer a bit because of the sudden drop in temp when switched off and then the quick increase in temp when you turn it back on again. Intels running cooler wouldnt contract and expand as much.

I dont know its just an idea, I like AMD either way.

if it was a cold comp man... it wouldnt be running @ 60degrees...

it would be runnin @ like 30 unless heating... but if there was heating itd be the same as aus... but still less!!

okies kids the CPU heating and cooling is what kills em

it's physics the expansion and contraction of the metal stresses it....and also the AMD's getting hot is not a good thing it just means they are ineffiecient

'sudden drop in temp' - okay, so your suggesting that the CPU is going to drop from 60 degrees down to 0 very quickly? My durons hot for about 10 minutes after turning the computer off, so I don't know what you mean by that.

Also, if it was 0 outside, your chip wouldnt get near 60 if you had anywhere NEAR adequate cooling, most likely.

I'd also like to point out that people have used liquid nitrogen to cool their chips, and it's not doing them any harm. Now, what temperatures does liquid nitrogen sit at? Something BELOW 0?

I dun know wtf you guys do but my PIII doesn't get hotter than 50 degrees and that is with OEM HSF and no additional case fans etc. I have never had a lock-up due to heat.

my PIII 866 reaches about 53ish degrees with OEM h/s while playing quake3 without locking up ffs what are u people doing to make them lock up? hahahahahahha

my athlon got to about 60ish without dying.

but that was at my brother's house, at home the computers sit in front of this big ass air conditioner that's hangin on the wall. 1.3g athlon @ 27celcius listening to winamp and perusing the forums.
