Word on the street was that the "neck injury" a few years ago was just a coverup over him being banned for positive drug tests. The guy is a pill freak (and more) from all accounts.

Feel a little sorry for him on the way he had to retire. But it was better he do it now than later on if something seriously goes wrong, if anyone saw the training footage of how he got his latest injury it was over pretty much nothing, so imagine a head high tackle, he'd be in trouble.
As Matty said, he had nothing left to prove. Respect++ |

It's a shame, one of if not the best halfback to ever play rugby league, Sad to see him go...although it's probably a good thing for the maroons.

He is one of the best, if not the best player of the modern era... get an idea. Where is the proof of this failed drug test? I've never even heard of a rumour of this... |

Well I know a lot of people from completely different groups that have bumped into him in clubs or events where he's been off his face - no not booze. They're not the sort of people to make up s***, and they're not trying to give him a bad name they dont really care cos they're all players and users.
Also, apparently lockyer sticks pills up his arse. I don't give a crap either - players can do what they want in their recreation time, it lowers their footy ability if anything. But u think lockyer or johns would ever get busted? Forget about it - they're way too important to the game and its image. |

So they breathalized him eh? Just because he's not drinking anything at the club doesn't mean he hasn't previously to arriving.
I'm not even a fan of his at all but it all sounds pretty retarded without any shred of proof. Anyone can say oh I heard this or heard that, means absolutely squat till you can back it up with some form of evidence. |

So was johns. Over-rated yes, but still good. Just like I think Lockyer and Thurston are over-rated. I rekon Hodges is the true king. I'd bed that man. |

Several different Newspaper Headlines I read theis morning about why Johns quit.
1. Peter Sterling announced today the only thing Johns was good at was picking up the soap in the dressing shed showers and he's been dropping the teams balls too many times lately. So he had to go. 2. An eye witness has claimed he quit NRL because his boyfriend was having it off with the whole Newcastle team and Johns got sick of sharing all the luuuvvvv. 3. According to reports Johns was seen having a punch up with Danny Bedaris over who had the littlest penis. Johns won but Bedaris protested that Johns was using tweasers to shorten his and Danny was all natural insy-winsy, thus Johns should have been penisalised. Consequently the Newcastle Football Club were forced to let go Johns due to his increasing disruption to the overall team moral by Johns no longer being trusted with tweasers. 4. It was announced today on Allan Jones radio program Johns has got HIV after text messaging gay black men in South Africa. According to sources Johns contracted the disease after sharing an anally inserted Motorla V3 phone with a yet to be identified gay black man in Johannesburg, South Africa. Sources close to Johns identified the man as John Howard dressed in his black and white minstrel outfit. The Prime Minister has recanted this statement with "I have no Recollection of the event". 5. It has been with saddness that Johns has resigned from the NRL because he and his boyfriend (Brad Pit) have adopted a Malawian child and Family Services claimed the NRL sets a bad example and the child may grow up heterosexual if in too much contact with professional footballers. Johns announced he would never, ever let his adopted child become heterosexual. These were just some of the headlines. It has shaken to the core the New South Wales gay community pretty hard. |

I remember him going for a 1 handed try, when he dived with the hand holding the ball, he dropped it before he put it down over the try line.

Actually i did see the broncos/panthers when he pulled the 4 tries and the gordon tallis tackle. And all that after he was only passed fit to play that same day after a knee injury.
Don't get me wrong, i think he is awesome, especially now that they put him back into the centre position where he belongs rather than fullback imo. ;) |

The only thing I remember hodges doing is passing the ball in-goal in a soo match and letting the blues score. must have been the only two passes he's made in recent times. so many times on a fast break hodges will have a man outside him unmarked or as giood as and tried to step inside and get tackled. i've seen it so many times. my boy plays under 10's at kawana. i bet you hodges was one of those kids (when he was a little takka) that would run sideways never pass it and go around the opposition. i see it every week. good players but hogs. i vote #1 not hodges but HOGGERS. great player if it was a one on one game. i reckon he has butchered half the amount of tries that he has scored. i have admiration for his reading of the defence and backing his own ability but id sure hate to be a winger outside him. only thing you would catch would be a cold. |

If the category for deciding it is "caused most change". With out a doubt that would be Alan Langer, he destroyed the scrum, and force rule changes for tripping tackles, and stripping the ball. I don't think he is the greatest player of the "modern era", but going on your category of forcing the most change to the game, he should be.

1. Allan Langer 2. Johns/Lockyer ( i couldn't choose who is better, imo equally as good, sometimes they both play s*** and play good.) |

I think any player you care to name is going to have people shoot it down.
I mean looking even just at best half back you have names like Alan Langer, Peter Stirling, Johns, Ricky Stuart... All great players. Personally I'd pick Sterlo. To pick best player of the modern era you are saying he's better the Lewis, Meninga, Halligan, Kenny, Cronin, Price, Lamb, Fitler, El Masri, Hodgson (and a heap of names left out)... course it depends what you call the modern era? Hell how do you set a criteria ? most tries ? hardly seems fair on a prop. Most rep games ? That can just mean a lack of options for that spot, it could mean more rep games. I mean if you go off Rothmans/Dally M ... sure Johns won 3 of em, Cronin and Sterlo only won 2 each ? and Lewis never won 1. Nor did Meninga, yet Meninga has more Australian team caps then anyone else (he still leads caps and points for Australia doesn't he ?).... If its for contribution to the sport, I'd actually have to nominate a non player in Wayne Bennett. |

Where is the proof of this failed drug test? I've never even heard of a rumour of this...his last long term injury was because he failed a drug test, the 'long term injury' was the cover up. I was saying the same thing about Ben Cousins 2 years ago and was told to get proof, I'm guessing Andrew Johns got a bit nervous not old Ben Cousins has been outed. PS: pilling isn't really cheating, but hey its against the rules, so he's a cheat! |
