OK so some friends and I have been playing a lot of flatout 2. It's a great game with a bit of variety but I want more. Can anyone suggest any relatively recent (last year or two) racing games that match or exceed the quality and fun of flatout 2?

Need for speed underground had a lan client thing put out for it by some smartass but I think in the last patch for it from EA they actually added lan support didn't they? Or was that in nfsu2? It's been ages since I played NFSU.

RFactor and the V8 mod that goes with it.
and GTR2, esp on a high end machine

It has cars, and theres races you can do. And then you can get out of your car, pick it up and bludgeon other people to death with it. My kind of game!

Test Drive Unlimeted. Addicted atm on 360. Drops for PC soon also.

i can't see how you can disable damage in lfs-s2 multiplayer though... sure damage on is more realistic... but i can't get noobs at work to play coz they keep crashing & then they are fuct till ya restart the track :/

you can hit spacebar to reset your car (usually if you roll it) and itll clear your damage and tyres

that only works in single player for me... maybe i got a diff version :/

wipeout 2097 was the best racing game ive ever played. still have it on ps1 somewhere.

That'd probably be Fatal Inertia for PS3 and Xbox360. The Xbox360 release date is 31st May, while the PS3 release date is 23rd June.
BTW, WipEout Pure for PSP is probably right up your alley.

is flatout 2 good? can you play over the net and is there heaps ppl to race? I was thinking about getting it off steam... but then wanst to sure how many ppl play it?
