If you're looking to improve your security around the PC, make sure you check out TrueCrypt, a powerful, flexible, open source and free security tool that provides disk encryption in Windows (for whole hard drives or smaller things like USB disks). Version 4.3 has just been released and is definitely worth a gander. |

Just saw v5.0 was released, allowing you to encrypt both your system and regular partitions:
System encryption involves pre-boot authentication, which means that anyone who wants to gain access and use the encrypted system, read and write files stored on the system drive, etc., will need to enter the correct password each time before Windows boots (starts) (Changelog) Awesome stuff. I don't have any use for the full-partition encryption but I do use a regular encrypted volume in conjunction with Portable Thunderbird on my laptop to keep my valuable (non-IMAP'd) emails intact and out of the wrong hands if the machine gets stolen. I highly recommend this for anyone who is in a similar position and worried about stolen data. |
