the admins just don't care anymore, they are jaded they've been doing this for 'free' for close to 10 years now....

I guess their commercial/business stuff is more important

why not just whack on phpbb or one of those free ones and be done with it, no maintenance required, or less then this??

It's not that we don't care, trog in particular still devotes a lot of his time to ausgamers. And yes our business is important because it sustains everything we do.

From my point of view, it's difficult to diagnose what nitro is describing because from every point of access we have such as our two office links from two completely different providers, our home connections from several different providers, other networks we manage and in either IE6, IE7 or firefox with and without plugins, we don't see these symptoms and it's therefore difficult to diagnose. For example the only broken image I see in this page is nitro's sig ( http://img.dafont.com/smileys/yeah.gif ) which is hosted externally and is a plain 404. I'm primarily using IE7 on this pc, and on my work pc I primarily use the latest stable firefox 2

Maybe one of you guys who is exepriencing the issue and has a bit of networking/http knowhow can suss out what exactly's occuring in your case and post your findings. If the cause is something on this end we can most likely fix it, or at least explain why it is the way it is.

I saw it one day, but figured it was my PC because I was having connection issues at the time and it came good moments later.

I've had broken images a few times ( avatars etc but main images are fine ) but a refresh has always fixed. If it happens again I'll see if I can suss anything out.

Yeah i get half loaded and like all the pics are missing etc. But I'd still rather have it half busted than lose the QGL msg board personality! Place would lose it's character if it changed to ultimate bb etc.

I can start posting again if you really want me to

rofl. I was wondering why I was less annoyed at QGL forum lately, and there's the answer! Happens every time kat stops posting, but for some reason I can't put my finger on it until it get's pointed out.

i think its when the server is running under load, I get a page full of red X's and have to reload a few times...

It doesn't happen that often, and I also haven't seen it for a few days, but yeah... I have seen it.

I turned down the network tweak in firefore from "power" to "default" and now qgl etc loads fine without broken images the 1st time. I just put that down to your Chinese drones counter measures that borked some Firefox users with power network tweak setting.

as per the other thread, its because your end is making too many connections to our server; its on the list of things to fix - it was a temp measure that was put in place to stop chinese spam f***s smashing our site
the admins just don't care anymore, they are jaded they've been doing this for 'free' for close to 10 years now....

the really odd thing is when I click "view image" in firefox on a broken image the image loads just fine. It seems more like a timeout issue, like the server just closes the connection because it thinks I'm done loading. You know how way back in the days of 56k you'd have to refresh a bunch of times to get an entire page of large pictures? To me this seems like a similar problem.

Didn't trog say they'd lowered the number of concurrent connections to a single connection per ip as well?

edit: I don't even have fasterfox
edit2: I just changed max connections per server to 1 in about:config, lets see how that goes.

Using vanilla IE7 when loading the forum I get a server error 503 on trying to get the CSS and I'm not sure if it means anything but I'm also recieving TCP checksup incorrect errors as well on something, haven't quite figured out what yet.

edit: seems the tcp checksum errors are when I try to "get" the images from www.ausforums.com/images, well at least that's what it looks like to me, then again I don't know very much.

this is just 2 of the 503 unavailable replies I get. One from the css and one from an image. Both in IE7 and as far as I know there's been no tweaking to its connection properties, hell I don't even know HOW to tweak IE7's connections. Firefox and opera sure, easy but ie7? pfft.

If you're seeing those checksum errors on your host (ie connection endpoint) it's probably because your nic driver offloading checksum calculations to the nic itself.

setup iptables to check the packet checkums before forwarding on and you should see them pass and forward. This would indicate your host is just showing the wrong checksums inside your OS due to hardware offloading.

ipwhat? windows doesn't have iptables. My wrt54g probably does but I'm not going to go messing around with it. Everything seems to work in firefox with 1 connection per server, I'd say IE is just trying to make too many connections and getting 503'd on all the images & the css. Like I said though, I have no idea where IE keeps that s*** but I figure the admins would rather try to make it work on default IE settings rather than tell everyone to go change their settings just for this place.

works in firefox, still broken in IE7. I think we can call it fixed, who uses IE these days?

Edit: works fine in opera too. I must have somehow broken ie7 without trying.

trog, it was fine for me last night and this morning, up until a minute ago. then everything broke, got a server unavailable due to busy or down, and the fonts/styles got all screwed.

couple of refreshes later the fonts/styles are back but some images broken.

i have been having issues with qgl for the last couple of weeks, but last night seemed fine.

I got the problem again in last 10 mins.
I'm accessing from behind NAT router that has about 80 computers behind it going through one real IP. Have been using this NAT setup for quite some time now without problems up until a few weeks ago.

Couldn't imagine more than one other person at my work accessing QGL at same time as me.

I don't think you can really get 'raped' by the chinese, their dicks are too small to feel it. BUNG.

I'm running IE7 and getting those constant 503 messages (or whatever it is). Did you put the server condom thingy back on to protect it, or do I have a problem at my end?
