Just wondering what a good value Keybrd and Mouse to get?

I havent bought a keybrd or a mouse in about 4 yrs so I 've no idea if the cordless packs are any good etc. I will be doing a bit of gaming with it but nothing hardcore.

I'll be ordering off the umart site

I recently went the Logitech G11 and G7 option and am very happy with both their performance. The G11 (gaming Keyboard) has the backlight keys and so many configurable /macro options to keep any hard core gamer happy.

spend the extra for a G15 keyboard, I underestimated the coolness of the lcd before I got it :)

also as I say in any other mouse thread, G7 ftw.

I vote for the G15 / G7 as well. The back-lit keys on the G15 are invaluable, and the LCD doesn't hurt. It's worth the extra cash for it. As for the G7, I recently got one, and am still a bit unhappy with the action on the middle button (ie. pressing down on the scroll wheel), but other than that everything is top-notch. At first I was hesitant about the 2-battery system, as I liked the old style charger cradle, but being able to swap out batteries mid-game because one is flat is very convenient.

Another G7+G15 vote here.

The macro keys allow me to heal like a GOD in WoW (I can do it without them too, but the macro keys are easier :P). The macro keys are just super handy all round for games. The switch to turn off the Windows key is also a fantastic feature. Media keys and USB ports are pretty standard features, I just wish they were fully powered as some devices will chuck a hissy when plugged into the KB. The backlight is more about aesthetics for me, because I can touch type etc and don't need to see the keys, but then aesthetics are very important to me.

Just like Evis, you WILL underestimate teh coolness of the LCD screen. I thought it was kinda dicky and stupid until I used it. It comes with a nifty clock screen (with time, date, how many emails you have etc), performance monitor (CPU + RAM), stop watch, media display, POP3 monitor and is supported by a growing number of games apps (it's nifty for ventrillo if you're using it in game, shows you who's talking etc). There's also an impressive library of user-made mods and apps available for the screen. If you're any good at coding etc, Logitech has released a free SDK for the screen. My only problem is that sometimes the LCD screen will go blank and will require being replugged or a system restart to fix it. This is very rare, happening maybe once a fortnight for me (my PC is always on). It also happens if I ever have Winamp and WMP open at the same time.

The G7 is the single best mouse I've ever used. It's very comfortable and feature packed. The scroll wheel has side scrolling (that's pretty standard now) but it sticks out a bit too far, so when you click the wheel down as a button it doesn't quite feel right to me. You can also have up to 5 different resolution settings for the mouse which you change on the fly with the + and - buttons. If you don't need or want quick resolution switching, you can assign these keys to other rolls. The battery packs are great for somebody whose gaming patterns are rather sporadic. I might go a week without playing a single game, then sit down and play something for 9 hours straight. More power is only a quick battery swap away. Much better than having to time your gaming around your charge cycles or leaving the mouse in the dock all the time and f***ing your NiMH batteries.

G7 Middle mouse depression is fine, you're all just useless plebs who can't press buttons properly, or my mouse be special and god-like and not suck... or maybe I'm godlike.. yeah, that's it.

yeh peeps thanks for the feedback. I do stress no 'hardcore gaming' for meh due to time restraints, just something that it is adequate for the odd online bash.

Dunno if the G15 is for me but the g11 and g7 sound pretty good.

G15 keyboard for the win! I'm still using the trusty MS Intellimouse because I can use it left handed not like the s***house Logitec ones that are only for right-handed noobs.

G15 over here too.

Nice plugin for RFactor/V8Factor if you are into racing, shows telemetry leaving you to scroll your motec display for other items, and the preset keys are good too.

And once you have backlit keys, you'll never go back to unlit ones. I just wish we had them in the work laptops, would make night work a whole lot easier.

Mouse ? I'm using an mx1000 Logi, and it's fine.

Mind you I dont play many spice mining clickity fests.........yet.

G15 & G7
G7 is an over rated mouse that has sticky buttons.

Thats my only complaint though (second G7 mouse, took first back).
