Mav's Dad here.
my little boy passed away peacefully in his sleep last night.

i never thought it would happen......

He lasted till my birthday and gave me a wonderful card.
Thanks to everyone for their ongoing support throughout his illness.
Please continue to support Alison's shave and/or in lieu of flowers or cards make a donation to your local cancer council.

Funeral details will be advised but it will be in Maryborough. Dale wanted a celebration of his life and we want all his friends who can and want to attend to be there.

Thank you once again

I never met him personally, only online, but he came across as a dead set champ. A sad way for such a young bloke to lose his life.

Being a parent myself that would have to be one of the toughest things to have to face. You should be proud of what a great person you brought to the world.

Best wishes.

I never thought that this day would actually come. We've all known about Mav's condition for a long time, but this news is still so surreal. I never thought I would see this thread come forth from the darkness, and that is really a testament to the kind of person Dale was. Best wishes to you and your family, all of our prayers are with you.

Ohh man that is sad. :<

Just wondering but did Dale change his mind about the funeral location?

As far as a funeral goes, i've insisted that i want it in Brisbane so all my friends can gather, everyone is welcome and when the day finally comes my mother or father will likely post on here to let you know of my passing.

Yes he did in his later moments. All our families are from Hervey Bay north so unfortunately cost & travel became a factor also.

He wanted a cremation which will be private for family only. then there will be an open service for us all. at this service will be a table with some of his favourite things on for you to all sign and leave your thoughts. His mother is arranging a slide show of him to show at this

We would like to invite anyone that wants to say something to let us know and we will arrange for that also....

So if you have any pics or want to say something at the service please email them to me shanefergusson@bigpond.com

He also wanted you all to arrange a piss up at the RE in honour of him...

A saint is a holy person. Over the years the term has grown to be used and accepted in other Christian, religious, and even secular contexts, to refer to those who are considered to be exceptionally virtuous or glorified in heaven. Hence a "saint" is a (usually deceased) person whose life is regarded by a community as a good example, and their life story is remembered for sake of inspiring others.

I've talked to Dale online a few times and have read many, many of his comments. The posts in this thread alone show that he is indeed an Honored person with great virtue and an inspirational story, right to the end and beyond.

Rest in Peace, Saint Dale.

I tried to avoid posting in this thread because everytime there was a thread that was mav-related I was usually one of the people (if not the only person) that gave mav a bit of a hard time, and to see him go out all of the sudden is a big shock. I didn't personally know mav so it wasn't out of hate, but he was just easy to pick on :p That being said he always had something to say and fought back twice as hard, which in a way sums up his never say die attitude, despite his forseeable fate.

One thing i do know is that he loved the Rocky movie series. I'll be watching Rocky 6 in rememberance and commemoration of what he's achieved in this life time.

I propose that we organise a "Cure for Cancer" LAN. If the Admins who know of the insurance problems think that running a large LAN in today’s world is still viable, I'll start on the hunt for a venue on Monday. Preferably a large venue that will donate their resources at a minimal cost and then all proceeds go to a Cancer foundation.

So, what I need to know is:

Is insurance simply just too retarded these days, or is it viable for a once off event?

Does Ausgamers still have resources to run a large arse LAN? I.E. do we still have access to switches/servers

Maybe we could con an insurance company to 'sponsor' the lan by covering it for free. Then we can all make some outrageous claims and all get phat new computers, and in the process raise money for cancer. Dale would be so proud.

R.I.P Mav, as a father also I can only imagine what this must be like, I saw the devastation my Dad suffered when we lost my brother Paul tragically at a young age. But if Mav's courage through his ordeal is any way indicative of his family, then you all certainly have enough strength and love to help each other through this sad period.

Given the same set of circumstances I only hope that when my time comes I can be a strong as this young man.

The only time I met him in person was to road rage him for being a hoon, only to realise the sticker on the back of his green lancer, and to have a laugh with him on here and msn later on.

Best of luck Shane.

I went to high school with mav, he was in my NetPrep class in grade 11, he really was a mad guy, Had plenty of laughs with him. He left after grade 11 i think, but i met up with him a couple of times and went clubbing once or twice. He really was a strong and determined individual who any one could be mates with. I'm glad that i met him and spent some time with him during high school. I wish his family all the best for the future and i'm certain that dale has moved on to a better place.

RIP mate.

I think it's safe to say that whilst every person certainly dies, only some people really live life to its fullest and Mav certainly has done a great job of enjoying even what seems so short a time to us. His amazing character and inspirational spirit will be missed.

R.I.P Dale.

Although we never met, the forums and thoughts here are testament to the life you lived, and the strength of character you showed.

In my working life it has been my sad duty to attend to those who face their life's end due to this indiscriminate pestilence called cancer, and from what I have read in these forums you have stood toe to toe with your fate with a courage rarely found in this world.

I wish your family and friends the same strength as they face the days ahead.

Sincerest Condolences.

To Mav's family I feel your pain ... my grandma passed away from bowel cancer a couple of years ago and was totally shocked and devestated from her loss. I keep telling myself that she is in a better place now and I will do the same for your son. A great mate he was to those that knew him and a perfect son for you both. A donation will always be made from me till the day that I die and a drink will always be had for those that I have known who have lost their lives to this disease.
