A new patch for Battlefield 2142 has been released. You can download it right here from AusGamers. There's an incremental patch from v1.19b as well. Here's the changelog: - Czech Republic flag is corrected |

haha that's how I got BF2, which was ok, but I still prefer 1942 for it's arcade fun and the fact that the planes aren't too insanely fast that you can actually dogfight with them.

I agree WetW. I'd rather play BF1942, but with the nice new graphics engine. Where are my Ships and Subs FFS EA !

Let's translate..
EA: "New Battlefield Game" World: "New textures + bugs that were fixed in last patch of previous game" EA: "New units!" World: "We removed the wheel textures so it 'hovers'" EA: "New weapons!" World: "We changed the sounds and textures... give us money" EA: "Booster pack!" World: "Method for conveniently dividing the community in two while charging people for stuff we developed while the testers were missing the last round of bugs" EA: "Battlefield Community" World: "Astroturfing supported by some people who think that EA will pull out 'next time'" |

Was never a fan of the bf series myself, always seemed alot of effort just to get it going and not much fun in return. A friend of mine bought me a copy of bf2142 (he wanted to pay me back a favor, he plays 2142 and there weren't any decent games or equipment worth picking up from the shop) and I've been playing it a bit with him, but no way in hell I'm gonna shell out for some stupid booster pack :/

Have they fixed the walking-around-feels-like-walking-in-molasses bug yet? All BF games have that same feeling to them, totally puts me off the game.

I like 2142 way more than the other BF games, but thats prolly cos I'm a sci-fi loving geek and I'm completely and utterly sick of "real war" games. Plus, mechs!

Have they fixed the walking-around-feels-like-walking-in-molasses bug yet? All BF games have that same feeling to them, totally puts me off the game. even on a lan? I suppose that's kinda a tricky question now that there are fewer and fewer big lans (and we'll prolly never again see anything local that is the size that qgl once was). Ultimately, no matter how great your pc is, a game involving 30+ players with vehicles added in is always going to run smoother when connecting to a decently specced out server (ie on a lan with no leechers) - especially BF2 and 2142. Playing with 16 or more people on a server which has seen it's best days gives the game a bad name I figure. Add into account players with crappy connections and their ability to slow the server down just spoils it for everyone else.. hence Americans lub me when I jump onto their servers with my crappah 280 ping :P I was blown away by just how different BF2 and 2142 play in single player mode on a tricked-out pc (a shame it's one @ work I get to play with and not my own) - and now with 8800's it's just as smooth at insane resolutions. Running around isn't a problem like it feels on local net servers, especially since if you're someone who digs the tanks/apcs/planes/helicopters as well as 1 to 1 combat. It is interesting to note how moving the titan can disrupt play on the server - just as moving the carrier used to on BF1942. The game engine doesn't handle this well at all, although I don't know whether it's primarily a network code issue or something else. BF2 doesn't have this problem (no monster vehicles), although it is noticeable when you're driving an APC with a full load of people on 64-player servers that may appear (to some) to be run on underspecced gear. I can't say I've encountered this problem on a lan yet, although the biggest lan I've played 2142 on was just 40-odd people. That not exactly maxing out the server. basically - upgrade your machine (7900GT-sh and 2gig ram min), and choose better net servers when the provider isn't squeezing 2 or more games into a box that should prolly just be running one. like most fps games we've seen - the better your gaming rig (and the spec of server you connect to) the more you'll enjoy the game anyways - this is a whole lot more than I wanted to write, and it's prolly already been covered in better detail by others out there in interwebland already. last edited by koopz at 23:26:37 11/Mar/07 |

that said - the new Enemy Territory will be no exception.
I can't remember how long it's been pushed back for, but I get the feeling they've run into the same problems the BF series has had given the lack of bandwidth that internet gaming brings our way. Still - ya never know.. it may kick some serious ass and kill off EA's stake in the genre altogether. it'll be interesting to see how she all pans out |

O its a game engine thing. No matter what machine I play it on, single player/multi great connection, crap connection. It still feels like slugging through syrup. Maybe it has something to do with the acceleration of the player when he starts to move. It is only the player movement that has that feeling, the vehicals are fine. It makes me want to camp next to a vehicle spawn just to avoid walking around, so I dont play it :D

yeah 2142 does feel like youre running in syrup compared to bf2 and especially to 1942
sprinting doesnt feel that much better. the whole infantry side of 2142 just feels slower altogether. the rest is fine needs aspect of the cheetah/pack |

howdy. Im not sure if im posting in the right section but im having issues with Battlefield 2142.
Im running windows xp64 on a Amd dualcore 5000+, 2gb RAM and a 7600GT nvidia card. Every time i go to play the game as soon as i go to actually start a map the game crashes to desktop. Iv scoured the net trying to find a solution but i cant find anything. Iv tried disabling the VOIP in the game, disabling the sound card in device manager and i even went back a few versions with the nforce drivers. From v94.xx to 91.xx Its a brand new installation of windows and the game is patched to v1.20. Iv also tried removing the Microsoft security update that apparently causes the game to crash. Any help would be great. Cheers mike |

Maybe it has something to do with the acceleration of the player when he starts to move you are definately on the right track there.. I suppose what I should have said earlier was that literally every action you make in BF2 and 2142 is sent to the server and then sent back to the client before you see it appear on the screen. Everything is server-side and double-checked by Punkbuster. Try logging into an online server thru a shared dial-up connection - what I said above will become overly obvious (and plz.. no jokes as to how I found myself trapped into a isituation where I was deseprate enough to try and get all this working thru dial-up :P ) Try playing a few maps on a lan with 20-odd other gamers (when no-one's leeching) with a decent current specced out machine (Core2, Intel 965 chipset, 2gig ram, 7950 or better and a the same in a server if you can do it - minus the video) and then try the same maps again on one of the bigger isp's such as GA. Movement/acceleration/firing accuracy is a great deal better on the lan.. at the same level we've come to expect with old FPS titles such as Quake, Unreal, Meh - I suppose I just said it: the game isn't as good to play online, and no-one goes to big lans anymore :( last edited by koopz at 01:32:19 13/Mar/07 |

It doesnt matter what map i try, as soon as i click the start game option it crashes to desktop.
I even checked the event logs to see if maybe there was a service or something that crashed at the same time that may have caused it. nothing Like i said its a brand new install of everything. windows xp64, battlefield and the 1.20 patch I was actually running vista before this but found it to be too troublesome so iv come back to XP64 ill try a re-install but i doubt it will make much difference. i really dont want to go back to normal XP as id rather utilize the full x64 architecture. im sure im not the only person having this problem, so if anyone has any suggestions id greatly appreciate it :) cheers mike |
