Does anyone here have it or has used it?

I signed up for it the other day, been reading up on getting it working under linux, anyone with it played around with that?

I've used it in Winblows and if you don't install it right, it blue screens every time :D ahh good times...

Speed is pretty good, nowhere near the limit it says but. The little antenna is gay also.

speedwise, I've had the Maxon Turbomodem (one of the Mobilenet versions of the Bigpond NextG cards) here running at speeds around the 600-700kilobit/sec mark (I'm in brisbane cbd).. compared to the cdma 'broadband' cards we had, it's a significant improvement - Playing WoW on the CDMA ones I used to sit around 800-1000ms, with the NextG cards I'm finding it running at/around the 400-500ms mark.

They're definitely nice if you've got the need to have one (can't get dsl/cable or move around a lot), but a little overpriced otherwise..

we use them at work. great speeds, but watch out for that $15,000 per gig charges if you go over your allocated amount...

Bigpond and most other ISPs use the convension of 1000bytes = 1K, 1000K = 1M and 1000M = 1G to make the billing maths easier.

Furthermore, this convention has become so widely used due that the term megabyte and kilobyte are becoming ambiguous hence Bigpond clearly explain their definition in their billing rate card.

So after a bit of stuffing around with account card registration i got it working today.

The bigpond wireless client is dongs.

I un installed it at am now just using windows dialup networking to connect to the nextG network with the dialstring *99#

Only problem i am having at the moment is the inability to select if i connect to a west coast or east coast POP. Half the time i end up connected via Perth which adds ~90ms of latency.

My next challenge is to get it working under Linux so i can make an old laptop into a NextG AP with iptables, hostAP and pptp-client.

just watch out when not using the connection manager, you could have issues with the account being dis-associated with the usim. throw it into a windows pc once a month and login etc.

the devices work all right. i have the Globetrotter one on a 10hr plan.
get about 290k/s downloads used 9hrs 58mins last month and downloaded 6GB =}.

btw new version of connection manager 2.3.7 went onto bigpond today. fix's some BSOD errors with Trend Micro and the sorts.

I trouble shoot these things 7hrs a day =}, they are pain full sometimes but when they work they are great.

oh sweet, i was just reinstalling my laptop and read this thread in the nick of time.

Got 4 of them suckers here both PCMCIA and USB, I found that the PCMCIA is better than the USB one speed wise. They're pretty cool to have if you're on the road a lot.
