What the hell. How did she pass the rigorous tests required to be an astronaut?

DISGUISED in a dark wig, glasses and trenchcoat, astronaut Lisa Nowak drove across the US to confront her female rival for a space shuttle pilot.

Packed in her car was a slug gun, steel mallet, folding knife with a 10cm blade, capsicum spray, black gloves, rubber tubing, rubbish bags - and a love letter.

And just like she did during launch and re-entry, the shuttle engineer wore nappies to eliminate toilet stops.

Nowak was on a bizarre mission that stunned NASA's tight-knit community yesterday after police charged her with attempted kidnapping, battery and destroying evidence.

Read on .. (news.com.au (LOL) article)

Anyway, found a nice photoshop of her portrait:

Only in America would a national hero become a psychotic (diaper wearing) murderer.

I heard it was first degree attempted manslaughter (Whatever that is)

first degree - the killing was premeditated/planned
attempted - "earnest and conscientious activity intended to do or accomplish something"
manslaughter - "A person recklessly causes the death of another, or acting under extreme emotional disturbance, causes the death of another, or acting under circumstances when a person reasonably believes the circumstances provide a legal justification or excuse for his conduct constitutes manslaughter."

Kat - attempt manslaughter doesn't exist. Manslaughter, as astroboy has so well ctrl+c/ctrl+v'ed is an unintentional death. If you are attempting something, you have an intention and therefore is not manslaughter.

Assault is similar. the attempt to assault in itself constitutes an assault so attempted assault doesn't exist.

NASA officials said today they will review their psychological screening process in the wake of an astronaut’s arrest Monday on charges she tried to murder a woman she believed was her romantic rival for a fellow astronaut’s affections.

Deputy NASA Administrator Shana Dale said the space agency would determine whether more psychological testing and evaluation throughout an astronaut’s career “would be advisable to ensure that our astronauts have the level of psychological and medical care and attention they need.”
