Known issue. Took me ages to figure out what was wrong. Made a thread about it here but the Search feature can't find it :/

Anyway: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSN_Messenger#Censorship_controversy

Messages containing "download.php", "gallery.php", "profile.php?", ".pif" or ".scr" (and many other extensions, filenames and URLs) closed the connection of the conversation, returned a "Failed to deliver message" or simply didn't appear, depending on the version of the client the person had downloaded.

[...]

The original intention of this filtering was to help prevent users from falling foul of malicious users, who often use URLs containing the filtered text to trick users into downloading viruses or spyware.

Pretty lame if you ask me, as usually you don't get any feedback from legitimate messages. "download.php and profile.php" inside URLs are very ... generic, and I don't see how they can be malicious.

Just a typical Microsoft knee-jerk response to security.

I don't think I have that problem with a-patched messenger, though I'm not 100% sure.

the IE patch where you have to click on a flash object before you can interact with it is by far the most f***ing retarded one yet.

i'm pretty sure that was a patent violation rather then a security feature
