Probably not a bad move making it look like a game which appeals to 8 million or so people. I wasn't really interested in the Warhammer MMO at all, but after watching that, I'd consider giving it a go. I think the whole exaggerated cartoony approach works waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than trying to make it look realistic. The LOTR mmo has attempted the realistic angle, and it looks like dongs imo.

Warhammer Online is one of the few MMOs at the moment that I am genuinely interested in, and not because of how it looks. I'm in it for some pvp action.

some of u guys need to so some research. warcraft is almost a direct copy of warhammer. warhammer has been around for almost 25 years and the guys that created warcraft got their "inspiration" from warhammer. the models etc in this game look exactly like their warhammer minature counterparts. plus if u compare them to wow, they look ten times better.

this vid looks a lot better than their previous rvr vid and i cant believe its still in alpha.

No, we don't have to do research. The game looks like WoW, unless there was a Warhammer RPG made back before WoW and Blizz copied the gameplay and HUD from them.

EDIT: And I don't mean that in a bad way either.

8-)

I disagree, if you are addicted to WoW then you have pre-disposition to an addictive personality so whether it's WoW, gambling, drugs, drinking or something else it too would suck up too much of your time. I think you mean to say, "go get some help if you play that s*** so much it affects your day to day living".

Yep, but as Rev said Warhammer failed at the MMORPG by producing an almost identical looking game. It even has SCT, the same errors (ability not ready yet) and so on, and it's a real shame. I was looking forward to Warhammer Online being something different.

WoW, for all intents and purposes is basically Everquest IIa for many player interactions. At least the majority of it’s mechanics are defiantly EQish in nature. They almost have it all, even the whole “levelling is a pointless grind until you can be bored in raids” is a fundamental part of WoW.

For the record Blizzard essentially based all of their concept art and much of their early lore concepts from Games Workshop.

Yep, but as Rev said Warhammer failed at the MMORPG by producing an almost identical looking game.

What? Most MMOs are generically the same, it’s formulaic. Anybody who’s played the majority of the Fantasy based MMOs already knows how to play, and that’s a major selling point. I mean, go to investors with “We’ve got a radically different system that we have no idea if people will like” vs “It’s like WoW – which has 9 million active accounts - but better” … which one are the people with money going to like more?

Look at the s*** fest that DnD:Online is? They tried a heap of new things to try and break the mould and they ended up with the s***test MMOG ever.

It even has SCT

Scrolling Combat Text wasn’t made by WoW, or even by WoW fans first. CoH, AC2, AO all had versions of scrolling combat text for a reason … it’s a f***ing good idea.

, the same errors (ability not ready yet)

So, you’re having a cry because it says “ability not ready yet” when you try to use an ability … that isn’t ready yet? Good one.

and so on,

Ran out of ideas to cry about in just 3 steps?

and it's a real shame. I was looking forward to Warhammer Online being something different.

Well that’s a mistake. WoW has proven that it has one of the most successful models for making a MMO around, at least financially. You’d have to be either retarded or a genius to break away from that system … and Business Analysts don’t often back genius.

WAR is going to be similar to WoW in a lot of ways. Seeing WoW plagiarised GWS Warhammer graphics as their initial concept art they are going to look similar, and as the basic system is now known, accepted and popular amongst the millions of people who’ve bought WoW, it’s going to feel a lot the same.

Personally, I hope the difference is that WAR fixes WoW’s mistakes and pours the vast quantity of awesome lore that Warhammer has.

I don't care if it looks like wow and thanks for the bites. Aslong as it's pvp is more like daoc and not wow, i'll be there with bells on.

typo's gibberish

Never said I was having a cry dude, infact re-reading my post I wasn't having a cry at all. I like how you made a novel out of a 2 sentence paragraph I posted thoug, did I hit a nerve of a Warhammer fan?

Of course fantasy gaves have the same formula, they are after all stemmed from the same genre. I simply said that the appearance of Warhammer is more like WoW than say Ryzom or EQ.

ticman im guessing wow is the only mmo u have ever seen or played.

No, I gave most MMO's a go once I heard about them. Most only lasted a day or two since they were just boring as s***. Just FYI I've been playing online games since early 90s and just off the top of my head the MMOs I've given a go of have been EQ, EQII, Meridian 59, Ryzom, CoH and so on. The only two I've played for a significant amount of time has been Eve (almost 4 yrs) and WoW (18 months or so).

get ur facts right.

Please highlight any facts I got wrong so I can right them.

I don't mind if the UI is like WoW's. To me that was one of the things Blizzard did really well. Nothing has come close to DAOC in terms of PVP so a marriage of the two sounds pretty bloody good to me, not that I think Ill have the time to ever take up another MMO again.

Speaking of WoW, watched this the other day about this guy leaving his wife whilst she was in labor to go play it.

daoc didn't have great pvp in the pure sense even on the pvp servers, but it was still very good from a realm vs realm perspective, specially in small scale group vs group

pvp in wow too often reminded me of gay portal standoffs in daoc

It was good that daoc made pvp inherent in nearly all aspects of the game. Darkness Falls was an awesome idea and I don't know why more MMO's havent tried to replicate it.

What some game company needs to do is make a warhammer 40k mmo. Now that would f***ing blow my pants away if it was done well.

*shrug* Warcraft copied Warhammer, Warhammer copied LotR and LotR is just a rip off of the bible. Let it go.

What about StarCraft? That's just a rehash of the AVP universe.

Jim, what DOESN'T remind you of gay things?

Maybe you need to discover what a novel is before you start comparing sizes to it.

I’m not much of a Warhammer fan; I’ve read most of the lore only because my housemate owns it all … and it’s pretty cool. I just don’t like blizzard enough to let them get kudos for other people’s work.

You might not have been crying, but you where definitely moistening up with tears of wow fan boiism.

Of course fantasy gaves have the same formula, they are after all stemmed from the same genre. I simply said that the appearance of Warhammer is more like WoW than say Ryzom or EQ.

Then why do you expect it to be anything else? Also, the vast majority of WoW’s mechanics were available in EQ. Maybe if you weren’t ADD you would have noticed it.

Please highlight any facts I got wrong so I can right them.

I did, but you had a cry about me highlighting them and never addressed them.

Also a healthy chunk of Warhammer 40k.

i rekn the conan mmo looks pretty cool without the dumb wow cartoonyness & bright spangled nintendo style magic flashs n noises. although if i was crizane tribal i'd prolly say that it was a rippoff of braveheart or something else that's really not a bit like it at all & in fact came after it :D
