Wasn't Dune some sort of RTS/Adventure game hybrid thing? SC is more like TA on steroids.

yeah this is gonna be awesome and a true strat game.. not just a tatical/micro game

you can play the small maps 1v1 and maybe take 20-45mins like the old classic TA maps/games or you can choose the big ass maps where games will go for a min 4+ hours

theres stuff like planes dont just fly forever.. they run out of fuel.. so u cant just build 400 jets and send em in.. you need to build forward bases/carriers to accomadate the planes refueling + there is time to target counters.. so you can organise a multi pronged attack from bases across the map to arrive at there destination/battle at the same time..

gonna be friggin awesome

i was a rts fan ever since day dot.. but after along time i kinda got sick of putting alot of effort into building the perfect base.. and by the next game its all gone.. its one of the reasons i went to FPS/wow etc

however back when i was playing TA alot the battles i had were always really intense to the point i still remember a few of the really memorable games down to the tatics i used to win etc.. these are not the sort of games where you just log in - do some f*** boring s***.. lose some brain cells and log out.. you really need to crank up the brain powa to play this sorta s*** well

anyway i look forward to it.. i might even replace some brain cells lost to playing wow like a mindless zombie

I played the beta of this game, while the scale was pretty amazing I found it annoying because there's just too much stuff to control...too many things to organise I found it very overwhelming. I think realistically you could have 2 or 3 people playing the same side at the end game and you would be able to control everything properly.

Maybe I should look at the way points more so I can try and do co-ordinated attacks or something.

Also Superform - I disagree with you about it being a very tactical game. If you can manage to control everything properly you'll win, because there's so much s*** going on I find it's less about tactics, and more about management of units, resources etc than 'tactics'

waypoints was always important in TA.. in this game thay will be even more important.. get that s*** hotkeyed and l2spam it

in ta to set the harvesters on auto collect i used to just spam waypoints on the minimap and it would cruse around and collect shizzle and open up the map at the same time

yeah tim i was saying the old TA was more a tatical game.. this is more of a stratagy game.. putting the stratagy back into rts - not many current rts games have much stratagy.. its all tatical/micro this will be more stratagy/micro

Hrm, I would have thought that tactics and stratagy go hand in hand...

the game is all about waypoints, if you don't use them you're gonna have trouble micromanaging everything

well in games like wc3 its all tatical.. you know what race your playing against... and you know what units you will build to counter them.. if they build 1-2 types of units you build units to kill them... if he goes to a certain mine you counter buy going to another mine.. this is tatics..

whereas in a stratagy game (especially on a big ass map) you work out where your going to build your bases.. where you will have rally points and patrol points and work out how your going to develop your forces and what forces your going to develop and also what is the likely approach of the enemy and how can you combat it, you have to work all this out maybe 30m - 1 hour before you even see the enemy for the first time in the game, this is stratagy.. and its missing in most rts games

and yeah the best bit in the big ass maps is having say 3 players on ur side all controlling various aspects of your forces - 1 controling the battle 1 controling resourses and 1 building

I also played the beta and it would definitely be awesome if 2 or 3 people could play one side, especially for the epic battles, theres just too much s*** to do

Hell yes, been waiting for this. Now we all just need systems like Tanaka's to run it.

I remember how TA was out for a couple of years before PC hardware was fast enough to really do it justice (ie thousands of units, massive map sizes etc). Looking at the way SC is shaping up, I wonder how upscalable it will be. Probably even more so than total was(that's gonna be fun). Either way, I really hope the old TA mod crowd can get behind SC, the community has been hanging out for a really long time.

SC is pretty scalable from what I heard, it's one of the few games to support multi-core processors, it also supports direct 10 specific prettiness as well!

I heard it also has some support for physics hardware, using it to simulate the debris and such stuff.

I'm thinking of preordering, but the last few games i've ordered online have been delivered late. Bah, maybe I should just wait until it's on the shelf.
