Courtesty of a guildie who manages a computer store I managed to pickup a copy of TBC yesterday but have not installed it yet.

The release date is set to the 16th of Jan and since I play on an Oceanic server does this mean I can crank it up now or do I have to wait for 00:00 16th of Jan Yankee time?

I'd doubt you would be able to sneak in, there'd be an account upgrade process that won't work until its officially released.

I thought as much, but logically speaking it would mean I could install it this afternoon since it would be the 16th in the US.. I wonder if those f***ers have put a time delay on so if your from AsiaPac you can't activate it until midnight tonight.

It will go live for everyone on American servers at the same time...so you'll be able to activate it when they do. Not that a few hours really makes a huge difference IMO...but if you've got it you might as well use it.

$5 the servers die!

Servers should be fine - Between the end of beta event last friday (lots & lots of uber demons/dragons invading the capital cities.. and hundreds of players swarming there to fight them) & the current dark portal event (demons swarming out of the Dark Portal.. is a quest to kill a couple, but it's turned into a mass world pvp fest on Blackrock) it's shown that the hardware upgrades Blizzard have been doing has helped significantly.

The only problem(s) you'll face will be fighting over spawns - eg. not being able to complete quests because people will be lined up to tag a specific mob as it spawns.

My advice to those who haven't been playing for a while? (and even those who have)

When you get through the Dark Portal, head straight to your town (be it Thrallmar or Honor Hold) to get the flight point - You get a freebie flight there, so you won't have to fight your way through. The Trainers for the next level of most professions are in Thrallmar/Honor Hold too (mining, smithing, jewelcrafting etc), so probably worthwhile grabbing them while you're there.

Next head out for your faction's secondary base (Either Falcon Watch for the Horde, or Telhamat for Alliance - both are on the western end of Hellfire Peninsula) to get the new First Aid skill and the flight point..

Lastly, head to Shattrath City & get the flight there. This place will be the central hub for most of your time in Outland, as it's got banks, inns & portals to all the major capital cities. There's also portal trainers for mages to learn the Teleport/portal spells (teleport: Shattrath at 60, Portal: Shattrath at 65).

While in Shattrath City, you also choose to side with one of the two factions that inhabit the place - the Aldor & the Scryers - but I'd recommend reading up first on what they have to offer you before making a choice. It's not game breaking if you choose the 'wrong' one, but swapping is a little hard/time consuming.

Oh, and on the factions? don't be daunted by the fact there's something like 15+ new factions to earn rep with.. You'll hit at least honored/revered with each one by the time you've hit 70 by doing nothing more than questing. No more stupid grinding or other crap to get rep - Blizzard learnt from their mistakes (Timermaw anyone?) and made the reputation stuff far easier to get.

Lastly, if you've got no idea where any of the above places are, check out Wowwiki's Outland page and scroll down towards the bottom to find a giant Composite map of the entire area.. Very handy map to have as it's got most of the major towns etc on it, so you'll be able to navigate your way around easier.

Oh.. and rumour has it that the servers will be enabled for us at midnight.. If you've got it already, install it & there should be a link from the installer that'll take you to the account upgrade page to enable it for the expansion :)

Try next few weeks khan :)

Might be worth skipping questing in Hellfire Peninsula & head to Zangermarsh instead (the next zone to the west), as there won't be as many people there. Alternatively you could instance grind by running Hellfire Ramparts & Blood Furnace (first two lvl60 instances in Hellfire Peninsula - Located inside Hellfire Citadel, which is the big fortress thingy in the middle of HFP). Ramparts is a quick 30min dungeon bash with decent drops & good xp. Furnace is a little longer, but also has some nice drops.. Could also try doing The Slave Pens in Zangermarsh (First instance of Coilfang - the home to the Nagas) as well.

For the raiders here: Check out the awesome stuff you have to get done to do the Mount Hyjal raid (You know, the last mission of Warcraft 3) - http://darkjedi.customer.netspace.net.au/wow/diagram.jpg.

You're forgetting it's maintenance tonight, so we won't be able to do a thing until tomorrow anyway.

No maint. tonight! They did a rolling restart last night to get the servers prepared for the xpack, otherwise it's clear sailing from here :) Most servers have been skipping weekly maintenance in the last month or so to see how they'd handle it, for this exact reason (to launch TBC & not have servers down until 3am our time).

Ah cool, I havn't been on the past couple of days, and I do know about the rolling restarts, but last week they went back to the old maintenance shut down, so I figured they were doing it again this week.

I'm actually planning on rolling two Blood elf chickie babes (I 2 box) and starting again (On Eldre' Thalas).

bleh, i recently sold my account for $150 US. Had recently reactivated after not playing for the best part of a year, but decided to get out before TBC cause its just gonna be more of the same s*** and the game just isn't as fun as it use to be (guess the novelty wore off).

I never put wow before uni/work/social life but whenever i had wow active i never touched other games, even when i wanted to. Guess its both a good and bad thing that it eats all your free time

Thank f***. Grinding Timbermaw rep to revered was soul destroying, and I was a mage and could aoe grind, I'd hate to be someone else trying. I was intending to go for exalted, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it any more.

Yeah, I'm having a bit of a problem like that at the moment - ensuring I don't put it before other hobbies. I've recently got really seriously into cross country riding, doing sometimes up to 3 hour rides when I get home from work (which at the moment is early due to arrangements, so home anytime between 5:30 and 6:30) - after getting back, it really doesn't leave much time.

It's not made any easier by the fact that you really need a few hours to sit down and actually do anything in WoW.

I'll add the expansion to my account just to see about getting my hunter to 70, but won't be raiding.

This one has an art book as well as the behind the scenes DVD, soundtrack cd, mouse pad and a couple of starter packs of those wow cards. If anything I think the BC one is better value than the original one cos those starter packs of wow cards cost $20 - $25 each.

Haha I heard it was just the soundtrack and some random s***. That sounds pretty good! TBH just got it to pair it with my original CE anyway.

One of the chicks at EB the other day when I paid the rest of the pre-order tried to get me interested in a T shirt. I said I wasn't quite that tragic, and both of them laughed at me.

Leveling to 70 (which feels like 1-60)
Then all the new gear.
All the other life less fags that play 24/7 will out gear you and out level you once again.

All I'm good for is making water and ferrying people around with portals, and I STILL manage to f*** that up.

Though it is pretty funny when your group is waiting for a portal to Ironforge, and instead of making a portal you accidentally teleport yourself there instead and leave them all behind.

Sometimes, I'm the only one that sees the funny though. But then I give them water and all is forgiven. And cinnamon rolls.

First impressions is that it's good. Alot more focused and certianly better for the casual gamer. Quest items are very nice - for example the 2nd quest I got when arriving in Outland had a reward of a wand which is almost on par with my Touch of Chaos.

Outland was so full of people today on Jubeithos it was almost unplayable :( Was lagging to s*** as well cos of the number of people in the one zone, I ended up going off and starting a Draenai priest and playing that instead.

Thats what I'm doing Khel, playing Blood elves. The BE starting area is unbelievable, far better than the Night Elf starting area. You almost wouldn't believe that they are Horde.

So many Blood Elf Paladins. So many Draenei Shamans. So many "WTB portal to Shattrah PST!!!". So many "where's the inn/mailbox?" in the BElf newb area.

Laughable 20-stacks AH pricing of runecloth for power-levelling to 330 first aid and tailoring.

Cop your 250+ wait queues or cop a realm shift.

Need to make a drinking game..

Nice coffee table book tho..

It's the same in Outland .. by far the worst offenders are f***wits asking about quests when the description clearly tells you what to do and if that fails they should look up thottbot IMO.

Actually, yes, I have to pay that.

I use MonkeyQuest - if for some reason I am blind, the log display actually visually indicates to you that an objective is nearby. Better yet, it also highlights when in proximity of a hand-in - something that I actually have a problem remembering sometimes, when the log doesn't say.

Yeah, this s***s me too, especially since the quests in BC seem to be really well written and descriptive, more often than not leading you to EXACTLY the place you need to be. I haven't had to look up thottbot for a single quest yet, and I've only had to ask advice in-game about a couple. Some people just seem completely incapable of independant thought and can't function without being spoon fed the co-ordinates of where to go next.

I'm enjoying it so far.. really want the shoulders drop from last boss in Blood Furnace so been doing that quite a bit.

I got an a-team together from my guild and we cleared the instance in 42 minutes (18 mins left on my mongoose buff as the boss fell) doing speed pulls.

Can't handle doing it with pugs now..

Yeah so far it's lookin pretty darn good. Half way through 64 and still going strong. I don't really like the scenery of Zangarmarsh...at first when I rocked up I was like "Wow giant mushrooms" but now it's just getting a little old.

Nagrand looks very nice, as does Blade's Edge Mountains.
