holy hell that's awesome. I wonder if it works with any "dish soap" and milk or whether it needs to be full cream or soy milk or something.

well theres this effect for win media player called milkdrop and it looks like it is derived from this 'experiment' this guy does. Basically it's just a bowl of milk with a few drops of food dye in it then he puts dishwashing soap in the middle and it goes all hendrix. Like whoop said doesn't really mention if it special milk or soap or what but it looks like an awsome party trick

It works by messing with the surface tension of the liquids, mostly milk fats and water.
The soap reduces the surface tension of the area it lands on and the surrounding liquid with the stronger surface tension 'pulls' at the soap. The soap molecules move about and difuse throughout the liquid, being driven by the surface tension convections. Eventually the soap molecules will surround the fat molecules in the milk. Once all the fat is encased the soap has nothing to bind to and will eventually rise to the surface and the surface tension driven convection will stop.
So low fat milks would not work as well as the fat molecules will be quickly encased and the liquids will easily seperate.
High fat milks would work much better as there is plenty more fat to keep the soap occupied and prevent an upper surface of soap forming.
Hope that makes sense. :D
