Hi Gamers,

I need some quick advice on my LCD purchase. Basically i am going for a 19 inch LCD, I am not tech savvy with LCD monitors so i decided to ask you guys about it.

I am looking at these two models umart are offering. They are both around 300 dollars which i assume is a pretty good price. I just need it because it takes up less space and is easy to cart around.

Which one should i get?????

For ~$300 you won't get a flashy monitor and won't have much of a choice in terms of features or quality. Forget 8-bit colour or high viewing angle. Generally go for an LCD that has:

1. DVI input
2. Useful dead-pixel warranty (Samsung 3 years?, Viewsonic 30 days, BenQ 7 days)
3. Looks good (e.g. doesn't have chunky speakers if you don't need them)

Those two LCDs you mentioned above have roughly the same viewing angle, despite the fact that the Asus quotes a higher number (very misleading measurement). The other specs are very similar .. one has a speaker and the other doesn't.

Keep in mind the BenQ likely won't ship with a DVI cable (from my personal experience with their products), so keep that extra cost in mind if you really want it. I mention DVI not for image quality (since a $300 LCD won't benefit quality-wise) but for screen centering and synchronisation.

Yeah, my 22" widescreen only cost $550 plus it only takes up a tiny bit more space than my old 19" crt did.

doesn't moving an lcd around a lot increase the risk of dead pixels?

the greater the contrast the better too I believe.

Useful Advice, As far as price goes i cannot really afford to move so I think I am going to go for the BENQ, it has got some good reviews and you are right about the DVI cable parabol. Thankfully i have 1/2 spare here at home so that will not be a problem.

I have always liked BenQ monitors anyway and my current crt is a benQ and it works great so fingers crossed my new one will be just as reliable!

No complaints here with BenQ
That said, I'm genuinely impressed with the ViewSonic 22" as I have several friends who speak nothing cept that of praise (plus I get to see them almost perpetually).

I'm also impressed with Samsung's 24" flip version (horizontal/vertical)

If you can afford $300, save another $200 an go the 22" ViewSonic. If your ol monitor dies in the meantime, I am more than happy to loan you an old CRT for the temp duration

The viewsonic has rather bad colour shift on horizontal angles, but for average Joe this isn't a problem. the best we've found in the 20-22" range in the cheapo range is the CMV, better than Viewsonic, BenQ, and the cheapo Dell ones. the pricier Dells are better than the CMV though.

I've got a 19" Samsung. I bought it mainly because of the dead pixel warranty of 3 years. Good monitor
